Custom/Hybrid Backie 'Chick'

Well wanted to put up a build thread for the Backie 'Chick' This ski was primarily built for my girlfriend who is very petite but with also knowing that I would be riding it as well(hence a front foot hold). Not a crazy powertrain because as for right now its set up for my girlfriend but should still be a very snappy and fun ski to ride. Ski sounds like a raped ape and Water tests will be done this week but as far as the build is concerned its finished: Motor is a 701 61X motor, dual taper bored 44 mil carbs, lightened flywheel, limited b pipe, solas pump section, 550 gas tank, msd cdi, front foot hold, x scream mid length pole. Hull is a backie chan fiberglass hull with custom paint by trendsetterz. Ski is very light and I will be weighing it soon rtr as well. Was very pleased with how it turned out and the fit and finish of the ski was just to my standards and expectations for an A/M hull. Will update more when I get to it but here you go as far as pics:IMAG1240.jpgIMAG1243.jpgIMAG1244.jpgIMAG1246.jpgIMAG1250.jpg

Very jealous of the front hold. Looks great. Can't believe you drilled three holes in the side for your ebox though! Desperate times eh?

Thanks swap. Easy install, you can still put on see in when you want. The mounting of the ebox behind the carbs actually worked out well. I driiled and tapped the ebox for the bolts and it fits extremely well with lots of room to service carbs. Also I took ebox apart and moved where the wires exit the ebox so the starter cable ect... tuck behind hose and under engine. The only reason I didnt mount it on top of front foot hold is because I didnt like where the plug wires came out amd the wires would have been bent being close to the engine. After said and done I could have made the foothold less deep and then mointed it in front of the hold and not on top, but really I am more than happy with its location.

Thx guys on comments, went through everything on this one and it smells like new leather with a bit of dap weldwood all mixed together

Yeah Joe almost got the shatt slapped out of him for drilling holes in the side of that.... I would have rather watched him drop it on it's side!!!

Yes I did. He gave me that look like wtf, actually it was the same look when i showed up last week with a six pack, a hammer, and a giant pipe wrench and said lets make some videos :)

and lets save the dropping it story for a thread on: how not to put a ski on a painters stand to align the pump thread

Love it! Did you use the tdr in this one?

Yup, perfect fit. In the engine bay pic you can see the restrictor valve on the top of gas tank, its off a tee. Any other ideas on where to pull water from to feed the tdr? I was thinking off tapping its own line from cylinder head...suggestions?

you drilled holes in it and dropped it? isnt that what everyone does with there new ski?

I've been waiting to see a 550 tank in a chan. i thought i was gona be the first one. Idk how these guys can run cart tanks. with 48's i gotta get to my spot then i shed enough weight to ride. lol LOVE THE TANK nice work!

Joe that's sick! Look forward to the ride report (and pics of the chick on board!) ;)

She'll need a nice bag in purple to keep that - we know chicks dig bags lol!

Did you powder coat the cylinders/cases?

Jim

I agree, since my gf just cruises around I wanted more mileage/ride time. Her only request for the build was pink in color, stars somewhere on it and a stock motor... its no dasa or x scream but will be little more peppy than stock lol

with my mod 710 true bore 38's i would get pretty good ride time with 550 tank. have to be careful tho i would ride by myself in lk huron up here in MI a few times i cut it close riding miles off shore in the big water.
