Bad crank seal?

I have to go get a new pump and gauge so I can leakdown test the motor, but what do you think? Seems like there is an awful lot of premix in there.

I am not. There is only one small seal on that end, vs the two big seals on the PTO end.

That is a definite sign of a bad seal. 1 seal or 2 it shouldn't leak it is suppose to hold pressure. Especially that much gunk is a definite sign.

I had a motor that I worked on for over 2 years every weekend I had the carbs apart. I was running a 147.5 main jet in a limited ski and it would run great but load up on the bottom end occasionally. I finally done a leak down test and my case was just as messy as yours.

good point!

i like to leave that front seal out of my engines, and I install an electro magnetic flap on the flywheel cover in the stock premix pump location.

its like a turbo boost.

A little bit is normal on a motor with quite a few hours but that picture has a puddle of nastiness sitting in the bottom of the case. There is no telling how much ran out when he popped the flywheel cover loose. Read how Chucky put it in the other thread. That sums it up nicely. He always seems to do that.

And Mouth......The electro magnetic flap will only work if you use lead additive as a fuel stabilizer. The lead can only be magnetized while floating in a fuel mixture.... I ran into this problem a few weeks back in my v8 powered skate board but found out that the Kuhneutson valve was my problem... Ordered a new one from Kelco. http://kalecoauto.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&products_id=9

Mine was like that too.

I changed just the one front seal (snuck it in) successfully a couple of times and ran for several more years with no problem and no mess in there.

i had an engine look like that but as it turned the flywheel cover seal was leaking and with the little gunk inside mixed with some water it looked the same....

If they were mismatched enough for the seal not to seal off, I woudl assume there would be some massive mismatch in the bearing bores too?

maybe the front seal area was DAMAGED on that case, but I cant imagine them being that badly mismatched.
