I noticed some grease leaking from my crank seal in the front. COuld it be form the grease I installed new or do you think they are bad? See Pic.

Just do a leakdown test and squirt some soapy water in the area...I like to have my engines hold 10psi for 10 minutes, but I'm a fussy bugger.

The reality is that a slight leak is fine (if you're not fussy) as long as you aren't losing a couple of psi in 20 seconds or something like that.

you got to consider the size of that seal too its freaking tiny and theres only one compared to the two big ones in back. A lot of motors I've worked on have had that and still run for a while. I dont even think it's oil prolly just your grease like you said cause its splattered outward, when the oil leaks inside the cover theres a residue inside everywhere and a puddle sits in the bottom.

i dunno when you did the bottom end last but if it wasn't to recent then fug it you got it that far apart flip the motor over pull off the bottom case so all the dowel pins stay in place, put a new one on and seal it back up. You probably noticed already but the seal is only suppose to go in one way one end of the seal is longer than the other i forget which end faces which way I'd know if it was on the bench in front of me but I can't picture it right now.

it's very rare when I do a tear down or inspection that I find no greas/pre-mix in the front cover from the front seal, so I'm gonna say a little seepage is normal, however nothing says certainty like a leak down test :439:
