Bad flywheel?

Trying to diagnose no spark on a ski im building out of old random parts. Think I can eliminate start/stops as I tried 2 and same issue (also switched the plugs start button is bad on one, I run them reversed anyways with no idle)

Stator should be ok as it came out of a ski that sunk so I’m assuming it was running when it did..going to test it when I get home

The question is has anyone ever had a flywheel that looks perfect not work? Had a stator and flywheel that were in sealed bags..can’t remember where I got them..maybe got sent back to me when I had a motor built and they were bad? Or maybe they got swapped for a lightened one..can’t remember been laying around for 12 years.

Highly unlikely it's a bad flywheel. I've never seen it. Ohm the stator first. If it's good, more than likely cdi. Just unplug the switch and jump it at the plug. Grab the plug and crank it to see if it's just a very weak spark

I have an extra cdi I’ll swap if the stator checks out

You did not by any chance use a 61x stator with a 62t flywheel (to much airgap between the two.)

Helps when you plug in the brown/white wire for the stator..fired right up

It’s happened to me. I had a Zeeltronic setup with a charging lightened 64x flywheel. I bought a used lightened t/l 64x flywheel and when installed I had no spark. Reinstalled the charging flywheel and it started right up. Luckily I bought the t/l flywheel locally and he refunded my money

Was it possibly a 2 lump flywheel and not 3 which has to be set for the type in the programming?

Yep, I just found that out too when I was sending my flywheel out to PFM Industries. Alex said the two lump has the best results for lightening the flywheel if I remember right.

Bad flywheel happened to me once. The flywheel I had looked perfect besides some very minor cosmetic flaws. Struggled for a week changing all the parts hunting down the gremlin. I switched the entire electrical system (except for the flywheel) to another engine and it fired right up.


Once I confirmed the electrical was good, I finally changed the flywheel on the engine that had no spark, and it lit right up first try.
