Barrel roll with no footholds on flat water?

Hey everyone I was wondering if I could get some input on doing a barrel roll on a SJ with no footholds on the flat water or am I wasting my time? Also should i start with nose jabs then work my way to rotating for the barrel roll?

Thanks,

Doubtful, you need to be able to keep the tray close to you to spin quick enough.

I wouldn't try, it's dangerous to get upside-down without something keeping you connected.

Welcome to the X ryno1355!

Yes, get some foot holds if you want to roll. You could get majorly hurt without them.
180 nose stabs can be done some what successfully without footholds.
Before footholds were around guys would glue/screw dense foam block "lifters" to sides of the tray to get a grip under with their foot.

If you get some footholds, i say go for it! Work on stabs and try a few rolls with a helmet on to get your sack up. Watch lots of video and working on your set up wake and timing is a real big deal also.
Good luck and be careful so you can ride again the next day!

I did snap a pole once, but it can be done. Just keep giving it hell and you will get it.

...until you or your ski become seriously injured and can't finish out the days ride. I personally have a hard enough time staying in footholds much less staying in a tray with lifter wedges or nothing. Just remember that you get hurt when the ski gets away from you. When you're connected, the chances of getting hurt are much lower.

thanks for all of the info on whether or not to try it with footholds. I think I might go get a pair of them so I don't kill my self of my ski.
