Battery drain to 75% in less than 48hrs

According to my charger, my battery (deka etx12) drops to 75% from a full 100% charge in the span of 48 hrs. After reaching 75% it seems to lose very little charge (it ended up at 65% after being out of my ski for a good 7.5 months). The initial drop to 75% doesn't seem normal, is it an indication that the battery is dying? Could my charger be giving me bogus readings?

Sounds like a dead cell to me. Mine did that last summer and I just ran it for the rest of the season. I just charged it up the night before riding and didn't have any problems. Now the battery will die on the way to the lake. Sucks because a good battery isn't cheap...

those chargers are goofy. My 1 year old yusa does the same thing. They charge too fast. To go from 75% to 100% takes a long time. Mine will read 100% and when you shake the battery it will go back down again.

Be sure to check the water in the cells. Only use purified water to refill.

IMO, get another battery from walmart. They have the acid in a seperate container to put in the battery before you can use it. Then you can cart it around as a spare and not worry about charging. I *think* it's a 4 hour wait between when you put the acid in to when you can use it. (Don't quote me on that one.)

Batteries that you have to add water to are obsolete. So many better options such as oddysey. Or order a battery for a yamaha yzf R6 Its an AGM battery that weighs around 7 lbs and is bullet proof. They can be discharged and recharged repeatedly without damaging them. I have an oddysey that is still going strong after 11 years. Try that with an acid filled.

Any idea how that holds up to total loss?

That is not true in all cases. How well the battery was maintained also factors.

I've used a battery in my car for years after having to add water. Motorcycle too.

Maybe marine batteries are different.

Acid filled batteries dont like being drained and recharged. They just dont do as well. Sure you will have some that will go a few years , but more often than not they are good forn about 1 to 3 years in a jetski , and even then they are not nearly as good as when they were new. Car batteries are in a different category alltogether. The new motorcycle batteries are just newer technology and work very well in a ski as long as you choose one big enough for your setup , depending on how hard starting your ski is etc. The little R6 battery is more than goog enough for a non total loss good running ski and weighs about 8 lbs less.

No , the 7lb R6 battery is a Yuasa and is used on a non total loss ski. I dont know how long it will go with total loss .The Oddesy is the stock size battery that is 11 years old and I ran total loss with it trouble free.
