FX-1 Battery installed backwards....

Hey guys.. Like a dumb ass noob, I installed the battery backwards on my stock 95 FX-1, now it wont start. I already changed out the 10amp fuse that was blown... But its still dead. Can sombody tell me where to start troubleshooting.... Thanks

Open up the ebox. Make sure the fuse is in there good and the fuse leads are good. If all that checks out, try jumping the two big relay terminals with a screwdriver and see if the engine turns over

@ matt....I have never opened the ebox yet, is it difficult? Do I start with the 3 screws on the outside?...

@ Tom.... I connected the battery to a charger and the green light came on, I think its ok..

Just because the green light comes on doesn't mean it's okay...

About the ebox...yes, start with the three screws. Remove the ebox from the hull, then remove the 14 philips head screws to open it.

Alright I just took a voltmeter to the battery, checks out fine.... opened the ebox, nothing appears to be damaged.... and tried starting it jumping the big relay terminal.. still nada... any ideas on what to check next? I appreciate the input.

i hooked my battery up backwards once and it killed the battery. what did the voltmeter say? a good battery should read close to 13 volts, not 12. that still does not mean it has enough amps to turn the motor over. when you push the start button, it makes the starter selenoid create a connection from the battery to the starter. while you have your ebox open, you can take a screwdriver and cross the two large posts on the starter selenoid. this will send power straight from the battery to the starter. if it doesnt turn the motor over, your battery is bad. if it does you have a bad selenoid or starter switch/connection. either of which should not be affected by connecting the battery backward. also remove your plugs so that there is no compression and the motor will turn over easier. oh and if you ever turn your motor over with the plugs removed the plugs need to be in the caps and grounded so they spark or you could damage your CDI.

I agree with all of the above as long as the ground is hooked up. Remove the ground wire and nothing is going to work either so check it before getting too deep into it.

I had a spare battery that had the poles reversed from my regular batteries so it was very easy to forget and connect up the terminals backwards. I did it in my wifes ski once and it just popped the fuse. I did a second time less than a month later but because I had replaces the fuse with a much larger one, I took out the voltage regulator the second time. The MSD lived thru both incidences as did everything else.
