So it seems my "auto" battery charger wasn't trickle charging after all. Grant it, I should have been paying more attention as well so I'll share some of the blame.

Either way, I need a new battery. Anybody have any vendors/brands that they recommend based on reliability and price? Any explanation on the different types would be great as well.

(I already know the Wal Mart ones suck)

you have the battery store or whoever, see banner up top. I got my last batt of ebay for the best price I've seen around. I only use Odyssey in skis I plan on keeping.

Cool, might as well support a site that supports this one. It says the Odyssey PC625 is good for all Yamahas up to 2003 but I guess its good for 2004 as well since they offer nothing else.

I'll have to look into it to make sure and also do some digging on these "dry cell" batteries.

Odyssey's are alright. Make sure you charge it right - I have destroyed one before. (But got a warranty replacement - thumbs up!)

Oh yeah, the PC625 should be good for just about 95% of skis out there. Don't worry about 03 vs 04 SJ.

The Odyssey is a great battery, but I believe the Jetworks KB-35 is better. The warranty is only one year, but you won't need it. They also build hard hitting motors.

you guys recommend the same battery for charging systems vs. total loss? or are certain batteries better for the TL?

It becomes a concern when you charge your battery every day. (Total Loss)
Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way to charge it.

the intructions just say to not go over 15 volts right?

My guess is, when using it in a total loss setup, you are going so far into the battery's depth of discharge, the charger HAS to have such a high voltage to bring it back up.

Ive got the same charger as you MattE, ive never seen it go over 14 volts when charging a battery.

did you ever notice yours going that high?

Oh I remember now, it has to be above 14.5 Volts or something too right?

ahhhh, here it is....

Its actually almost $20 cheaper when all is said and done but I agree, I think everybody should support the sponsors when possible and when the prices are really close.

Something like that...really tight voltage specs, and most automotive chargers have fancy de-sulfurizer programs (or something like that) that comes on automatically, and involves voltages of appr. 16V.
Kills that Odyssey.
Also, I am not sure if this is still in the current Odyssey manual - it was in the first one I bought - it cannot be a constant-current charger.
