Total cost was around $100=wheels...70,axle...20,PVC...10, but the dolly was free. What's the total $$$ of the built?
No offense taken. I even watched youtube videos on how to, I went out bought titanium drill bits, but with a hand drill it was impossible no matter the speed or lubrication. The problem was the thickness of the axle compare to the size of the drill bit, they were tiny and kept snapping, about 10 of them. Drill press would have been helpful. Oh well, it worked out at the end.Looks good. Here's a tip for drilling through that stainless. Not sure if you've cut a lot of metal so if you have I don't mean to insult you. Its just that most people (myself included) make the assumtion the first time they drill metal that its like drilling through wood. Just max out the drill speed and go to town. That's the wrong mentality. if you decide to drill the stainless rod, remember that your RPM's need to be slower than most people think. For example, if you were using a 1/4" high speed steel drill you would want your speed to be at about 900 RPMs. The smaller the drill is the faster you want to spin it. the bigger it is the slower you want to spin it. If you go too fast you burn up the drill pretty much instantly and its worthless, not to mention you might work harden the material. Its obviously a little more difficult to control the speed with a hand drill but just remember to start slow until it starts to cut the material and stay at that speed.
I got a half empty SX hull laying around, perfect for practice. I will find a sweet spot on the dolly and then attach a rope with hook on the handle. I might extend the handle for more levarage, I got some aluminum straight bars laying around. Also once you find a balance point and bring the ski just a little more forward that point, so you have a bit of tongue weight. Make some kind of catch, hok, pin, stopper or something to holt it in place at that point. You shouldn't have to pull it all the way forward and have excessive tongue weight for you to carry. My bigfoot is set up to haul everything from am hulls, sj's and blasters. Distance from the pivot point (axle) to the bow hooking point is 44"
Makes it easy for one person to drag skis around with.
Not sure if this is the stuff exactly, but same concept and cheap. http://www.surfixinc.com/surfix_trailer_bunkslides.html
