bearing noise

Should there be any noise from any of the bearings on the crank when spun? Particularly the bearing next to the drive coupler? I have my motor apart for paint and new top end and I thought I would check out the crank while I'm at it. The bearing next to the drive coupler is tight but makes a noticeable noise when spun, the others are totally quiet.

Thanks
Mike

due to being a easy bearing to replace, just replace it.
use a bearing splitter and either a press or a puller tool on the splitter

They should be quiet. Try turning bearing slowly back and forth with your finger pushing tight on the outer bearing race. Good bearing will feel smooth, but on a bad or going bad bearing you will often feel scratching, binding, or grinding vibration as you feel it.

The three bearings in the middle and the one near the flywheel key all are quiet and smooth but the one next to the coupler that you can see inside is noisy and scratchy feeling... Do you think it's worth just putting a new bearing on it or should i just get a rebuilt from you?

The rear bearing is single row and fairly cheap. If you can change it yourself or have it done cheaply then it will definately be the cheaper option. You have to decide what the condition of the rod and rod bearings as well as general condition and hours on the crank to make a decision.
