How do you bench test a motor when it is out of the ski without any electronics hooked up? The starter and stator are bolted up tough!

No Electrical box.

Can I just hook a battery up to the starter?

Yeah it will crank you can check compression like that. I've run motors like that with everything hooked up.

Im testing compression.

I tried hooking up two different batteries to the stator and got nothing???

I took the starter off and it is not frozen and spins by hand.

Does just hooking up a battery directly to a starter work??

Stator - the round plate with coils behind the flywheel
Starter - the small electric motor that spins your engine to start it.

Did you connect both RED and BLACK wires from the battery?

be nice guys
yes hooking the starter to the battery should spin it over
if your useing any of the elect box you need all of it or just jumpers to the starter
no the relay isnt needed if useing jumper cables
