Super Jet Bendix acting up

What would cause a bendix to start acting funny? Everything looked clean when I pulled it last week and I greased it like I have on all others prior to putting it back in. However, the other day it started acting up and would barely turn the engine over before disengaging and spinning freely. Took me a minute or two to get it going and then when I stopped the ski 10-15 minutes later, it started working perfectly again.

If you truly suspect it is the bendix, just swap it out... don't risk it. I had a bendix blow up on me about a month ago, and caused a big headache.

That in mind I have a excellent condition OEM one for sale if interested.

Well that's the thing. I would've considered my bendix to be in excellent condition if it hadn't acted up on me last weekend. I had it in my hand a week ago and it operated perfectly and looked excellent. Makes me wonder if you're not supposed to grease the inside or if there's another issue with it.

There is no problem greasing them.

Before mine blew up, while I was out on the water, I went to start my engine and thought I had a dying battery because it was cranking very slowly. Luckily we were near the end of the ride.

When we got back home, I was flushing it out... I heard a strange ticking sound. I called Geoff over to the ski and said "can you hear that? that strange ticking sou...." and then suddenly the engine stopped. I kinked the hose while Geoff turn off the water.

Pulled the flywheel cover to find metal shards and dust all inside of the front flywheel cover area.
