I have 2 on mine, a thin flat on the back and a form fitted one on the front.

Not sure if that's the proper setup though.

For the Yamaha one you could check the OEM parts finder on rivayamaha.com they have schematics.

I put the washer between the spring and the bendix, and it seems to work well.

im talking about the larger thin washer that goes on the front and/or back side of the bendix.

hlsm/riva says on the back side for a yami but buykawasaki says on the front side for a kawi. i dont understand why theyd be different using the same bendix.

Out of a thousand motors I have taken apart...The large thin one goes to the rear (on the bendix gear) for Yamaha's and goes on the front on the Kawasaki's. The main reason is the bronze bushing in the cases, the Yamaha is a straight bushing and the Kawasaki's are a flanged bushing.

I've never heard of putting that large thin one on the front side of the bendix (then again I've never taken apart a Kawi).

Good explanation SUPERTUNE.

I'm puzzled now where my form fitted washer came from, so I took some pics.

What failed last week on my bendix was the outer ring on the sliding collar, which let the collar go too far forward and the weights flew out locking the flywheel up. I did not have that washer on at that point. It appears to protect the outer ring by putting all pressure on the inner portion.

Also, with it and the rear flat washer I still have 2mm of front/rear play which the cover spring will take care of.

Anyone seen this type of washer? I'm wondering if it's from my Kawi days. I'm going to run it, especially since the bushing in the cover is kinda iffy.

So replace the bushing! Easy to do. I got an extra one if you need it.

I've got a bit of a question about this too.

I recently got a new bendix, basically one of the ebay ones but from a local source and found that it doesn't throw out properly. It was basically just spinning (even with the crank side thrust washer installed.

I pulled the bendix and put another thrust washer in there from the old bendix, and now it seems to contact the flywheel, but I'm getting a noise that sounds somewhat like teeth, slipping past teeth!

Should I try to use another thrust washer on there, as it got better when I added another one last time.

I'm having a very similar problem to geek, only this is a brand new bendix....http://www.pwctoday.com/showthread.php?t=25601&highlight=bendix+thrust

Any ideas?

Have any of you rebuit a bendix? I did a few and they can be pretty tricky. The one I had to do because it was all gunked up and not operating properly. Some people told me not to do it but I was cautioud and took my time. That bendix still works to this day.

lol...ive never seen one of those either.........

i've always just put one on either side (matched the correct size to something Ive had).....and its worked fine....well, that is once I learned that you MUST run a front cover gasket (yamabond alone wont cut it..)....
