SX/SXi/SXi Pro Benedix shaving

[Half flip95]

1996 sxi 750.

No spark
bypass switch - no spark
pull stator cover - everything is peppered with metal shavings
front of the benedix is shaving on the flywheel.
1/2 the time when you go to start, it just spins and doesnt engage flywheel, soemtimes it will catch for a second, then let go and spin again.

1. could all the metal shavings in there be screwing with the stator?
2. after replacing the benedix, how do i prevent it from doing the same thing?
3. what color is the 96 sxi ebox supposed to be? the motor is teal but the ebox is the silver

Silver is right for the ebox.
The washer on the back or front if the bendix?
Kawis go on the front...

Or as stated, bendix is toast.

The large gear of the bendix goes toward the rear, otherwise you could not install f/w

lol i was reponding to link about the washer on the front - the factory installed benedix had a washer behind it (towards rear cylinder). and there is clearly washer wear on my replaement benedix.

Ok then, this is your problem...

Kawi bendix washer is on the front between the cover and the bendix.
No washer on the rear between the bendix and case.
Bendix teeth will rub on the flywheel ring gear if the washer is on the rear.

See this a lot with rebuilds..
