because it looks so much cooler you will try harder. lol ok maybe not, but a lot of them are made lighter and stronger than the oem hood.

shortened pole gets your weight forward and forces you to ride in a more aggressive stance. that is a must do imo.

Better air flow and keeps more water out

And it looks cool

Absolutely NOT. I would go back to a stock hood in a second. There is nothing better than a stock hood for keeping water out. Well I can't say that for all hoods but for the few that I have seen/owned the stock works 100% better.

A stock hood is better if you like doing fountains also, the raise in the hood helps keep your body centered on the ski. And you can run an aftermarket pole and bracket with a stock hood no problems.

I have the weights of my WCF hood compared to a stock hood somewhere but I can't find it. The stock is 10 pounds heavier (I think) with the tool kit and fire extinguisher, but if you remove those it isn't that much of a difference.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe lowered hoods also lower the center of gravity thereby assisting you in achieving that last bit of rotation on rolls(if you need it that is). Could be negligble though. :dunno:

If ya can't roll, don't blame it on the hood.

LOL

IMHO, there are only two legitimate reasons for a lowered hood: weight & looks.

a lowered hood will actually FORCE water into the engine compartment faster...

if the boat is upside down for any length of the time the hood will fill thru the vents....a lowered hood has less air volume than a stocker, and once filled the water will head right down the breather tubes...

As far as a pole goes......strength vs. weight vs. looks

An oem style pole is the ONLY one that will allow the boat to NOT float upside down..The pole will get it to 45' and weight of the motor will do the rest

stock hoods and poles are going to be the most functional (the yamaha engineers believe it or not werent stupid), but looks and weight will always win in the end

I got one because I ripped the paint off my oem hood when I de-stickered it. It was spend money repainting the old hood, or buy an am hood with matching white gelcoat.

My ski has floated upside down with my oem pole.

how does a stocker keep out more water when it has three holes in the front of the hood vs a AM having only the holes in the back?....my stock hood wouldnt keep out water for anyting, even with a new seal

The lowered hood is a freestyle (flat water) thing. Lower center of gravity, if your doing hood tricks your balance is much better. With a stock hood, your weight is up higher, which makes balance much more difficult. With Rolls, it puts the center of gravity closer to its longitudinal axis, makes the ski rotate better and faster. As far as stock hood verses lowered and water intake. Each hood is different. Depends on location of the hoses. Stock hood lets a good bit of water in. Idok had my old stock hood with a Blowsion liner, that was the driest setup I have had yet. 3 Wammer Hoods, 1 Blowsion hood. 1 Mod stock. Wammers are decent, Blowsion sucked at keeping water out.

If you do the stock hood mod which is plug the 3 holes with butt plugs then it works great. And if your ski lays on it's side with a stock hood it will stay dry because of the s trap that the water has to flow through to get to the intake tubes. And the after market hood lets water straight in. Your ski will sink in just a minute.

alright so say you block off the holes how does the ski get any air....besides the small holes in the back

True reason for a lowered hood.
To make the ski look better once a lowered pole bracket is installed.
