a lowered hood will actually FORCE water into the engine compartment faster...
if the boat is upside down for any length of the time the hood will fill thru the vents....a lowered hood has less air volume than a stocker, and once filled the water will head right down the breather tubes...
As far as a pole goes......strength vs. weight vs. looks
An oem style pole is the ONLY one that will allow the boat to NOT float upside down..The pole will get it to 45' and weight of the motor will do the rest
stock hoods and poles are going to be the most functional (the yamaha engineers believe it or not werent stupid), but looks and weight will always win in the end
