I'd recommend if you get a new cable, stick with an OEM cable or a blowsion hd cable. Don't go the sbt route, there was a thread on steering cables recently.. And sbt was not highly ranked, which are the ones JM sells.
We sell all of those steering cables. OEM, SBT, and Blowsion. All of these cables have pros and cons.
When SBT cables came out, I removed and sold my oem cable to test the sbt for myself. It was even bent in pump area when I broke my nozzle on sandbar at wavedaze over 2 years ago and it is still going strong. We have sold hundreds of these cables with some broken but not a large amount. Best cable for the price. '06-07 OEM cables are nicer and beefier than '96-07 OEM but expensive with no warranty and many break oem cables as well. Blowsion HD cable is big and beefy and looks bomber but some have needed some cutting on ends to make fit, also cable jacket is softer than sbt or oem jacket and should be carefully protected from rubbing against hull and other parts and it is most expensive cable. Blowsion cable is about 1 foot longer than RN cable so they are good choice for many rickter and vision builds but are too long for many short hulled, short pole flatwater type applications. Blowsion cable will also bend in tighter radius that other cables will.
IMO many of the cable failures are related to install. These days many/most installs are in non standard applications: a/m hulls with a/m pumps, nozzles, trim, and steering as well as pump swaps, etc. In addition most of us want max steering throw and mod steering and nozzles to or past cable throw limits. It is critical that cable is routed in hull and pole tubes not to bind cable and ends adjusted not to stress cable and that it hits steering stop in both directions before hurting/stretching cable. Some a/m hull and pump setups also put cable in an angled setup to begin with that is harder on cables as well.
As I recall the 08+ cable has less throw and has been less desirable.
Not the correct cable (short throw) for his application.
Correct, 08-up cable only good for 08-up oem poles or on oem fx-1 pole. Not enough throw for other sj poles.
I picked up a cable from JM and I'm not to happy with it. it dosnt have a smooth action like all my other skis. its also a bit long with my shortned pole. because of these factors I'm going to replace it with something different this winter. If I knew it was a sbt I wouldn't have bought it.
Sorry you are unhappy, don't think you ever contacted us for help. I assume you bought a SN cable which are several inches longer than RN, but there arent to my knowledge any shorter steering cables available for SJ.
