Surfriding Best impeller thread protection method

Got to watch out for over tightening prop , especially with threads lubed . Tourque spec is 13 ft lbs . I just barely snug it and still have to stand on a four foot cheater piope and jump on it every time , after heating the hell out of prop .Left hand threaded prop tightens itself under power .
Also had a brand new skat shaft and prop rip their threads out while changing prop after a half hour ride . Still need to send that junk back .

Definitely just snug it down since it self tightens. Wow on the 4' cheater bar. Ive been just putting shaft in vise with tool, warm the impeller and a standard Snap-On wrench. Guess I've just been lucky or the Mobil 1 has been helping. I use it on everything, never use anti or nevereize. Good luck . guys. EDIT: man that blows about the high dollar shaft and impeller, must've been that Kawi/DASA :)

IMO:
Removing an impellor is never gonna be easy. A bench vise and a long bar is a given. I use the vise to hold the pump vertical while I shoot penetrating juice in there for at least a day before I wrench.

However, every time it's just as tough. Whether it's my pump (changed out pretty often) or my wife's pump (10 years on a stock aluminum prop)

I use never sieze on just about everything that has threads. But, I must admit; I've only used grease when installing a prop.

I've never had to use heat.

ive run anti-sneeze for brakes, same stff that goes on my calipers sliders. and ive used white grease. never had a stuck prop. I dont even have a problem taking off OEM props from the 89-94 machines ive owned.

best thing ive found for getting the props off is hitting the gym. lol

Teflon tape thought of it too but wondered if it would last ? Kevbo, have you used this alot ? Longevity ?

Not Teflon tape. Thread sealant with Teflon. It seals out water and has anti-gall protection for stainless steel. Anti-seize has anti-gall qualities but will wash out faster than grease or pipe dope. Put a little RTV on the nose cone and the threads will stay perfectly dry forever.

I'm curious about case sealant too mcdog. I just wonder how it reacts to heat. OR put some sealant on the last couple threads, anti seize on the impeller, them more sealant where the removal tool would go. That way ypur just keeping corrosion out from your threads and not sealing the actual threads.
