Best lakes to watch people with skills to improve my own...

I hope this doesn't come across wrong, biut hopefully this comes across simply as a newbie really interested in learning more about the sport first hand.

I want to know which lakes (not so much intersted at this point in ocean) you guys ride at so i can hang out with you while learning how to be a better rider.

I am stoked that Aquaholic already told me about his and his riding buddies spot is in Mission Bay but that's a little further south than i would prefer but I still plan to make the trip since it's worth it...closer than the world finals at least.

You will improve your skill by getting on your ski and off the keyboard. Stop watching videos and get out and ride. Watching people is not going to help unless learning tricks and wanting to see how people setup etc. Get out and rude. Get good at turning, balance and some of the older truck you can do on a 440 then move to a superjet. Just get away from the computer and get your arse on a ski. That's how you get better at riding

Edit: Wasn't ment to sound rude you just need to be in a tray. Any lake with people riding is a good place to learn. But this sport is small in some areas so don't worry about others, I ride by myself a good amount. Allows me not to get distracted

Yup, well said everybody.. @Mikesee, sure I watched a few videos to learn about some basic things and get an idea about tricks, but really I learned everything from tray time and things just start to come naturally..

Bad things happen when you ride alone, but i understand some people have no other choice

As stated : Just start riding!

Correct. I should restate that. I ride a lot being the only standup rider. There are still couch riders out there. But on a stand up I feel alone ha. But got a few more people making their presence towards the end of the season

SkiPro, it sounds like you are mocking me and I guess I deserve it. I sort of knew this post might open myself up to ridicule but thats ok.

As for Aquaholic and Rubbertoe, I definitely would like to watch them ride but do they actually ride together? I am guessing they do even though when i first signed up here I couldn't tell if they were actually friends or if they disliked one another.

I know I should get out there and ride more, that goes without saying. And I know watching videos or even people on the lake won't all of a sudden make me a better rider. Probably a long shot but since I am in the market for upgrades or even a new ski, it would be cool to become friends with some on the board so i could have a chance to try their skis at some point.

I would also like to see what other people have done with their 440s and if indeed anybody is out there doing backflips on it, with or without an ice cream engine upgrade or whatever its actually called.

Stop with the 440 ideas man, Seriously. Don't upgrade it unless you want to do what your doing now but with a higher pitch exhaust sound. Save your money and get a superjet. 99.999999% people will say the same thing. I'm guessing you haven't riden as much as you have logged onto this forum. It takes time, and money, and skill. That 440 will hold you back at some point so make the upgrade to a Yamaha superjet and get riding if you have 3 or 4k to spend. Don't put anymore money in the 440 if you want to be doing trucks that you MIGHT be able to do one day. This is not to be read as me being a di*k. Just saving you the headache. I have a few yrs in the tray and 9k into a ski and can't BF. I skipped the superjet and didn't learn those basics and I'm learning them hear but still dropping in more money. If my next engine doesn't help me learn I will go back to superjet (not smartest plan at all but that's what I will do)

If you want to try skis out I'm in Bakersfield. There are a few different skis out here (650sx, superjets, mild flatwater skis) if you want to come and learn and ride around

Ditch the ice cream idea.... everyone knowsa good hull is more important for flatwater... a guy like you should probably get a Dickter (or whatever they are actually called).

Mikesee, I was being a smart A$$.
Listen to everyone tho, Ride that 440 untill you get the basics of riding down..and while you save up some money. Then sell that 440 and buy a superjet.. OR atleast a different ski with more power. But if you buy a superjet you will be able to use most of it in a AM hull. Don't put anymore money into that 440 unless you HAVE to, to keep it running.
But DO Go RIDE with THOSE GUYS! I would if i could! It always funn to ride with people.. No matter what the skis or the level of skill one has... Most people that ride standups just want to get more people into the sport.. and most are all super nice guys that will help you with anything you need help with, Wheather its riding tips or what not to buy and what to buy.. OR help with your ski. There is alot of knowledge in that group that you could learn from... I was just kidding earlier..

thanks man! its no problem, i deserve to be ragged on as i have issues focusing (obviously) so its good to keep me honest :)

yeah, I am definitely riding with them this weekend. I wish Aquaholic was gonna be there but he said he is getting ready for the world finals. I will definitely make another trip either the the world finals or another weekend when aquaholic will be in mission bay.

my advice: fin a lake with other good riders it does help. keep the 440 for friens to ride so that u can get someone to tag along so at least you arent alone. or be like me and buy a cheap waverunner if ur friends are lame. skip the stupidjet and go straight to a used rtr stunt hull.
