Freestyle BEST method to epoxy cases (Using JB weld)

Location

I'm curious, how do you do it? I heard JB was the best stuff to use. I got the Industroweld, the 10oz kit.

JB weld says you can thin it with acetone to pour. Would you guys advise against this?

I also head you can heat the JB weld but I just can't find the process when searching.

I see alot of case porting threads but not much on filling the cases with epoxy. Lets hear, how do you do it?

Thanks!

Brandon, JB Weld is self leveling so I wouldn't thin it. You can use a hair dryer or heat gun to warm it but the fumes might not be the best for your health.

You need epoxy with aluminum in it to mimic the expansion rate of the cases. It isn't cheap, you want me to get you a part number? Bout $150 for a quart, enough to fill two cases

The best method requires grit blasting all bonding surfaces and using a high temp adhesive like Hysol EA934, EA9394, Magnolia 6398, or equivalent. Standard low temp epoxy will work for a while but is not ideal.

Hm, so no big fans of JB eh? I read in other threads it was about the best stuff to use.

How many people have had issues with JB lifting after a build?

I appreciate the help guys. Like Alex was asking, what is the best stuff to use? Where can I get it? Spill the beans?

Thanks

I use heat resistant epoxy and mix it up with aluminium powder you need to let it cure 24 hr on room temp and then postcure it 15 hours @ 150 dg F after the postcure the resin is stable to 300 dg F with normall epoxy the resin will become soft @ higher case temperature.

In the pic you can see the bottom case of my stroker build. IMG_2009.jpg

They are common aircraft adhesives. If you dont have access to these then find an aluminum filled industrial epoxy rated for 250F. It is very important to grit blast the case if you want it to stick.

By Who? One of the problems with Forums is the fact that people will say things, others will take what is said to be the "truth" or "Best" when in fact the person posting actually does not know crap. Take Everything posted here with a grain of salt. Find out who really knows what they are talking about (Search that persons threads, it is not hard to figure out who knows what) and listen to them only.
