Where should I get them? Are all seals created equal, because SBT's seals are considerably cheaper than OEM.

wow i cant believe how many people dont think $50 for three seals is a good price, not just on this thread but seems a recurring subject, pretty much $15 a seal.... cheap cheap cheap

which basically can ensure your motor doesnt blow

$50 for piece of mind is a small price to pay imo

If the cases have been split you will need to buy new seals regardless of price. However if ten minutes of searching can save me $25-30 on the same item, i'm taking it. If I was ordering a bunch of stuff from one vendor already then sure, I would add seals to the order for convenience sake.

I just checked fleabay with the part numbers for all three seals. I came up with $41.00 shipped (combined shipping on the two rear seals). I must have got lucky when I bought my last set as I got all three shipped for around $28.00 if I remember correctly.

Chris and I get our Aftermarket seals from the same source. They are as good as OEM and they exceed OEM specifications. I have sold literally hundreds of these kits with not 1 problem ever. I run them in all my skis and even on my DASA engine that I have over 3k invested in.
I'm not sayin to not buy OEM, but why when you can get the same if not better quality in a aftermarket part. As we all know OEM parts can be outrageously over priced.
If you are comfortable with OEM seals, then so be it. But in my experience why spend more money for the same if not better quality?

Just because someone says "only buy OEM", does that make it the best?
Someone please tell me why OEM seals are better....

I had leakage on some aftermarket seals after one season. Maybe the crankshaft surface was worn, maybe there was some other cause, who knows for sure? I replaced them with OEM seals and will find out next time I tear it down if the OEM held up better on the same shaft.

I've had some leakage and failure on OEM crank seals before in my past 20 years of owning standups, but those were on KAWis though. Never had a seal leakage on any Yamaha twin Ive owned.

OEM crank seals are made by ARS. Atlantic has them for about $40. On the other hand I get aftermarket ones for $16 a set and have never had a problem.
