Freestyle Big 2cyl couch motors

I feel like this has been covered, but I couldn't find anything.

Are there any sweet big CC 2 cyl couch motors to keep an eye out for that would provide the power of a big bore? 800-900cc?

I know it will never be as awesome as the big name BB mills. And I imagine that the porting is for more top end than low end. Even at that, I would think that it could give more power than a limited 701 for about the same money.

My thinking is that a lot of people ditch their ski for next to nothing on Craigslist when the problem is small (carb, starter, SS switch). If I knew what brand/ model to keep an eye out for I was hoping I could stumble my way into more power without dropping megabucks on a aftermarket motor.

This may be a dumb idea, and i'm fine with being told that but i'm always looking for a less expensive route to greatness LOL.

Another thing to ponder, don't let your HP exceed your riding skills. I have seen many riders scared switches get turned on even greater because of the increase of HP.

The Yamaha GP800 or Seadoo 951 are probably the most popular swaps. Not sure which is easier to fit but having owned a 951, I'd say go with the GP800. :bigok:

I believe the GP800 is the most popular in the standup community. The GP800 can work with a WDK upright kit but then you have to deal with WDK or you can get the case mod and it'll work with the SJ electrics. As stated the Seadoo 951 is a powerful engine but this will require some custom fabrication on your own. I forget the guys name but there was a big seadoo guy on here and he swore that a 787 seadoo engine could be just as powerful and way more reliable than the 951. As I understand though, the 951 is massively heavy. Getting pipes to fit all of the motors that will work in a SJ is by far the biggest problem.

For the record, I looked into all of these options just as you are doing. I decided it is more beneficial and easier to just save up for a big bore SJ engine or something similar. I picked up a big bore last winter that ran but was worn out and needed a rebuild for about $500. Deals can be had...just have to keep an eye out.

Besides being an extremely unreliable motor in the first place, the 951's also have the sidedraft carbs that sit far too low to be considered safe in anything other than a race ski. The 951's do not tolerate water at all.

Like I said, this is why I ask ya'll questions before i go and do something dumb.

Between aftermarket hulls and big bore motors its a big step up from my limited 701 in a modified FX1 hull... Trying to figure out a way to have big boy pants power without having to skip 3 house payments.

Best cheap way to go imo is the "poor man's big bore" a 61x bored to 83 or 84mm ported cyl with options of ported cases with dual 44's/epoxied manifold...it makes decent power to rip around on.

The OEM exhaust is not a pipe, it's a bread box. An aftermarket exhaust is assumed for pretty much any SJ motor.

I think you may have been referring to me about the 787 being way more reliable, it is damn sure a lot lighter, it likes compression and the carbs are mounted in a decent place. At some point I will have the X2 with the 787 finished up, but it involves a lot of custom hull work, modified parts, custom one off parts etc etc to get it into the X2 hull, I won't even think of saying it fits but I will say its going in there come hell or high water ! :nana:
