(might be lying to my self). in the last 10 months i have gained about 45-50 pounds.i used to be a pot head with no job,so i would smoke and keep my mind busy and away from food.i got a job back in october and had to quit.had money so i started to eat more and would get bored and just eat.now i have decided its time to drop that extra weight again. im starting my morning with a 250 cal. slim fast (between 5am-6am) i take my lunch break at about 9:30-10 am with a salad (fresh sweet peppers, tomato, hard boild egg whites ,and half a chicken breast). when i get home a 3:30 pm im going to start taking a walk. for dinner try to eat befor 6pm. lets see what happens. also any good advise would help alot. im riding a 650sx at the moment and want to drop as much as i can befor i get my super jet.

Weight is not a science like some of these diets make it into. The way to weight loss is to eat 5 - 6 small meals a day spaced out between 2 - 3 hours. You wanna keep your bodies metabolism going. I believe in having a really good breakfast. Eggs and oatmeal are always good choices. Snack food like almonds, yogurt, cottage cheese and fruit are always good. Here's an article to read. Its based on talking to a girl but it makes valid points http://articles.elitefts.com/articles/training-articles/why-cardio-alone-doesnt-cut-fat/

Taking a walk is a great idea. Head out for about 30 minutes try to walk up some hills to get that heart pumping or even try some jogging.

Good Luck. I just lost about 20lbs.

NO SUGAR.. What ever you do don't eat sugar. I can losses all the weight I want if I only change to diet coke.. that and cut out the Oreo cookies at night... LOL I am not your size by no means but it's all the same. And if you don't like walking get a mountain bike a cheap one is less than a hundred bucks and you can then cover more ground instead of walking (booooring)

I strongly urge you to pick up a book called "body for life". Its a perfect program that covers all the basics and will be a good first step to get you moving in the right direction. I don't agree 100% wih the program but it is a great starter program until your knowlede grows.

Its the program I used to drop from 223lbs to 184 in under 6 months.

Just about everyone's body will react differently from everyone else's. What works for them may or may not work for you.

What worked for me to drop 10~20# was adopting a quick weight lifting routine. 3 sets of 10 reps of 6 different exercises directed solely at my upper body 5 times a week. It was only to build muscle for throwing around the ski, but I lost weight and my beer gut anyways. I didn't change my eating habits and stopped the routine a few months back so gained all the weight back.

Wanna lose weight? It's simple. Stay away from the couch and eat less.

I try to incorporate exercise into everyday life without it being strictly "exercise".
I ride my bike to work and around town.
I walk & run quite a bit with my kids.

I have a garden to get those fresh vegetables on the table without the hassle & cost of getting them at the store.
Nice little hobby, too.

What do you grow in your garden?

What I am doing now is the "low carb-high fat" / GI way of loosing some of the bulk. The idea (and it works) is to "teach" your body to use fat as fuel. Avoid all type of food that would raise your blood sugar level high/fast (potatoes, cookies, bread, etc.). Try eating nuts, meats, beans, all above-ground produce, eggs. Eat 4-6 times a day. Try to exercise before breakfast, like a 30 min walk, that will burn fat. Try to do what Matt suggests, walk the stairs, don't ride the lift, that kind of thing. Avoid soda, cookies, donuts and all that crap. If you want something sweet, eat berries, really dark chocolate (more than 70 % cocoa) in limited quantities.

What do you grow in your garden?

Last year it was mostly tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini (oh lord, way too much zucchini!), squash. Some herbs, pumpkins (for the kids), and onions.

This year it's just two tomato plants, a few peppers, one cucumber plant, and onions.
I wish it could have been more, but we just moved and could only move a few plants.
It's mostly maintenance free. Just water.

I might get some chickens next year in addition to the garden.

Eat clean. No drinking of calories besides the occasional glass of milk. No bread, pasta, or cereals. Stick with good proteins and have 2-3 good servings a day at least. Fruits and veggies should make your carbohydrate intake up. Water is the only thing you really should be consuming in between meals(no alcohol if you serious).

Other than that, lift weights 2-3 times a week and run on your off days or do some kind of conditioning(boxing, jump rope, biking, etc..). So, in essence, 5 days a week of good exercise. Realistically, the simplier the better.

Stick with your program that you design. Make it fun and always set little goals that will overcome the big ones in time.
