..both Daytona last year and Lanier were over 100 riders, but there were more boats in Lanier, cause we had people from out of the country and California (which is like another country  ) and they didn't bring boats... Lanier has set the bar w/ attendenace and charity funds raised... ($2700), In Daytona raised we raised ($2100)...
With the way things are going so far, I see Daytona definately topping Lanier, like Paul said...
I have recieved amazing support from the Beach Patrol this year... even more than last, due to the ride being such a positive experience for everyone involved... I have full support from the Captain of Beach Patrol and several other beach patrol personel as well...
Some upgrades/changes from last year that I think you will like:
I can't think of anything else right now... I know I'm forgetting something...
- We will have a ramp made of wood to transport the skis from the ledge of the hotel wall (2ft tall) down to the beach sand, so we won't have to lift anything this year... just roll the skis through the parking lot onto the grass, down the ramp into the sand... all of 50ft...
- The zone will be made as wide as we need it to be this year. Beach Patrol offered to make it as wide as need be... We will start w/ 2000ft and go from there...
- I will be bringing my PA system to play music all day, announce the "Cherry Buster", as well as call the raffle. (btw - I need a Emcee... Jason Stoyer will definately be elected for that)
- We will have 3 rescue boats on hand and in the water for the two main days. All three will have sleds and will be used as judges for the "Chery Buster" comp.
- The Jr. Lifeguards will be there displaying what WE were responsible for getting them through last years charity raffle/auction, as well as helping out with registrations and so on...
- The Hotel has been completely remodeled, inside and out... It's looking sweet...
nick, i wish you could find a niche in this sport to make it your full time career.
you (and all the sponsors/people who help you with the daytona event) have made this into one incredible event.
thanks again for all the hard work/effort you've spearheaded up for this. it IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED and MUCH RESPECTED by the community.
cheesy? yes, maybe, but needs to be said more often.
Nice job Nickie! I just came down off the high from Pismo and am now getting giddy over coming out for Daytona...CAN'T WAIT!
For the record, we had 153 stand ups and 11 runabouts in Pismo this year (164 total) so I think that's the top count to date, but from the looks of your list, you'll shatter that.
As far as fund raising goes, well, let's just say we must be bigger partiers as we were too looped to even get the raffle off the ground. Raised only $511.00, but that's not bad for a bunch of blind drunks. Next year though.......
Yer Goin' Down!!!!
LOL!
LP PS: I'll emcee for ya hon!
Pismo seemed more disconnected than Lanier. It may be just my impression, but we (from Texas and Colorado) were talking and felt that Pismo may turn out to be bigger, but there less of a family gathering about it that Lanier has... I dunno.
I haven't been to a Daytona ride. can someone please change the date to something warmer and not during the school year?
Good job Nick with the promoting, now start the planning for the '08 ride, could be the next Sturgis.
