Bilge pump differences

I have a 360 and 500 gph rule bilge pump. Looks like the only difference is the size of the hole in the impeller housing. Has anyone tried opening it up and making there 360 into a 500? Might be a way to save a few bucks.

I'll post some pics tonight.

I didn't take them apart, but they look identical, the motors have the same fuse rating witch leads me to believe that they are the same size, and the housing are exactly the same. The impellers also look the same. It wouldn't surprise me if they just change an insert in the mold to choke the 500 down to 360. I'll get the pics up after work.

I guess it could be the photo angle or something else, but those impellers dont look the same to me.

open it up and try it, or run it as is.

in the grand scheme of things what is 360 vs 500 gph? those ratings are somewhat skewed anyway, certain temp, voltage, and pump head pressure.

maybe a .3 second difference in clearing the hull of water?

interesting though. take them apart and measure everything.

thats what i was saying besides the hole size the "impellers" inside are different! If you open it up it might cavitate..... but try its only a 20 pump....

also i had a 360 mounted side by side with a 500..... the 500 always put out a significant amount more of water!

ill defiantly use dual 500 this year and keep the 360 as a backup.....

You are right, the impellers are different, but the 500 pictured is brand spankin new and the 360 is out of a 96 tigerpoop. The housings and motor shaft are exactly the same except the hole on the 500 is twice the size if the 360. I'm not going to tear them apart to find out, because the both still work, but I will try to open the hole in the 360.
