Freestyle billet pump stator section

Hey guys,I've been kicking around the idea of building a billet 144mm large hub 12v billet aluminum stator section for the oem yamaha pumps and wanted some input before I go through with it. It would be very similar to the solas ss mag and the skat 144 non setback in the way that it will work with the stock prop, wear ring and driveshaft except it would be made of billet aluminum and then hard annodized for corrosion protection. I could also do a setback version but you would have to source your own extended drive shaft. So what do you guys think? Is there a demand for a lightweight budget mag pumps or should I not waste my time?

I would think that this would be a great product considering those new solas sub 500 dollar mag pumps are flying off the selves

wow,I cant belive I didnt see that already. Those look similar to what I plan on doing exept mine will be a 2 peice design and bolt up to an oem wear ring.Does anyone know if he ever finished them? also it looks like the veins are strait unlike the veins of a stock or skat that have a slight curve at the front, anyone know why?

The Solas option weighs quite a bit more with its stainless construction. Wouldn't the billet be a tremendous advantage? As far as building these, if you can bring a good product for a fair price before anyone else than you will be successful. If your pump offered the performance of a Mag with similar weight at a $500 or so price of course I would purchase and so would a lot of others.

All comes down to cost.
Can you produce a billet pump for sub $500 range?

I was going to have a pump modeled up and get it quoted to cast it... but it looks like this market may be getting flooded out.

im not sure what the cost will be on these yet,but it will definatly be competitive to the solas.Im still in the quoting process and waiting to hear back from the programer as to whether or not they can be made from 1 peice or if they will need to be 2 peices and welded like the maxx and skat

For me personally, I like the idea. But I would only consider it worth the downgrade of durability if it was in the $300 range.

true, a billit aluminum pump wont stand up to processing rocks and junk as well as a solid stainless so if it durability your after then a stock pump or solas would probly suit you better. But for the rider looking for excellent hookup with out the weight penalty this will be a great option

All the power in the world if you have the tools to make and sell them.... Please please read up on how flow works before you design the vanes or at least copy the design of a current mag. Laminar good...turbulent bad.

OP is wanting to build a billet pump. I asked if he thought he could do it for less than $500.

I commented that I was looking into cast pumps. I'm not interested in making a billet pump.. at least not a 144 that will compete against the Solas pricing
