I also put a few little dabs of superglue on the o rings so they don't fall out.

That is exactly what I use. It's funny, I have one whats cheap and worn that gives me the angle and bite I need. A newer nicer one of mine has tolerances that are too tight to work. Having the hardware that is easily accessed from straight on is a feature I would value when buying my next manifold.
