That's a LOT of carb for a 550. It will probably work, but any carb that size may be a bit temperamental on that little motor. Email Art at Jetworks and see what he says.

I ran a single 44 sbn on my 550 with very similar mods plus MSD total loss, and it ran perfectly clean/strong.

I did too w/o MSD and it ran very well. I was just thinking that a 48 is a really big carb and might be somewhat unforgiving on a motor that small.

It might be a bit big but I think it will work fine. A lot of people run dual 44s, I think that removes all the snap to the motor that a 550 should have in the mid range. So a 48 shouldnt be any worse.

Exactly what I was thinking.. running dual 44's or even 46's it's a lot of carb too... anyways how should I start with that carb? What should I do first? Get it to idle? Next..?

I was also thinking that the pulsation could not be strong enough - do you think an external fuel pump could be useful??

Thank you...

What settings you guys would recommend? What pop off, needle size (Mikuni book says the smaller the better)... what pop off range should I am for? Am I making any sense here?
