Blaster Footstrap Install

I was asked to share how I installed footstraps in a blaster.

you'll need:

2" wide Bar aluminum
12 small stainless steel bolts, nuts and washers (I don't remember the size - i'm thinking 10 (english) or 1/4")

bread knife
  1. cut the bar aluminum a little longer than the footstraps will be when installed. it will be a backing plate.
  2. pre drill the bar aluminum for the nuts and bolts.
  3. use the pre drilled bar aluminum as a template to drill holes in the top deck of you blaster. location is up to you.
  4. remove the battery box from the blaster
  5. Cut the foam out of the blaster with a bread knife. The bread knife does a pretty good job of cutting the foam and not shreading it. When cutting the foam make sure it is cut at an angle (wedge) that will allow you to pull the foam out. Removing the foam was by far the hardest part of the install.
  6. hold the backing plate under the top deck and push the bolts through with the other hand.
  7. add nuts and washers and tighten

I tried using rivets and screws without backing plates and they just pull out.

Suggestions on where to get the aluminum? How about a pic for suggested placement?

I don't think sluttys way works as well on a blaster because there is no underpad to hide the hardware on the top of the deck like on a SJ.


I bought the bar aluminum in an 8' length at a hardware store.

this pic on the visser website help me with placement but it was mostly where I felt comfortable.

Blaster Foostrap Install: A Success

I just intsalled mine about 3 days ago and followed these steps with success. Although as was warned about the bread knife and foam, I tried a different route and I'm recommending it to anyone who wants this process to be easier. I used a power drill and a flat wood drill bit, like the one attached below. I just angled it to the position I needed then hit the trigger. It worked really good. It bored out a perfect hold big enough to put my hand between the foam and the tray. After that I just followed the directions. Now I just need to grow a big enough pair and get it upside down. Thanks for the directions.

Over here they just use the dakine footstraps(windsurfing straps!) but im always thinking of how to make footholds 4 a blaster1 maybe modify those xft ones to fit the blaster.....

Hooked on 4 life?

I just installed mine and I did not cut any foam out.

1. Get some 2" wide aluminum that is about 1/4" thick. I had to buy (4) 8' lengths from Ace Hardware online.
2. Drill holes to tap about 6.5" apart. May vary for your shoe size. I wear size 12.
3. Tap 6mm standard pitch thread into it. Match pitch to whatever ss 6mm bolts or screws you have to use.
4. Hacksaw to size with 1/2" on either side of holes.
5. Epoxy 6mm ss nuts to the backside of the aluminum bars. I epoxied with bolts in place and nuts just loose enough for bolts to turn freely. All this I did with bars clamped into my vise.
6. Let dry.
7. Place bar on the blaster footwells where the strap would be over your arches while you would stand in your favorite position and mark holes. My holes were into the Hydroturf in the slanted area.
8. Drill 1/4" holes at marked spots.
9. Remove battery box.
10. Slide a tool like a long tire iron or long pry bar between foam and hull in front of holes to pry down foam.
11. Apply some 3M 5200 to top of bar. Use latex gloves as it might get messy.
12. Slide bar into place and temporarily bolt into position.
13. Repeat other side.
14. Reassemble and let dry.
15. Bolt on straps.

If anyone is interested, I might be able to cut some lengths of my aluminum for you.
