Blaster Kidney Pipe Observations and Questions

I put a blaster mod pipe (kidney) today. As per Ed Brazinas advice . . . he said it would produce more power than the mod sj pipe I've been running. Well he was right. It was a noticeable power gain. but . . . it got much hotter than my old pipe. Now I beat it in so it would fit but it still wants to rest on the gas tank . . . is that normal?

Any remarks of value would be appreciated here.

BTW it's stainless?!? Isn't that the preferred material for sonic reverb (or whatever it's called?)

I run one on my sj as well and love it.

As for hotter... I never noticed. Possibly because its stainless steel and not aluminum...

I have run them in a couple of skis and have friends who are running them also. You have to dent it pretty good to get it relieved enough to not touch the tank and hull. You do NOT want it to be in contact with the tank or hull, so whoop on it some more!! These chambers run best when you can get them pretty hot, like just a light sizzle after a WOT run. I noticed that it produces strong bottom to mid power but signs off earlier than the regular B pipe chambers. The biggest problem that we have all had with these chambers is cracking around the mounts and where you have relieved it along the weld next to the hull. Once we got the stress cracks / leaks welded and the bracket strengthend they work well. I think it would make more power if you could reduce the chamber volume a little by shortening it IMO. Kind of a poor mans TNT.

will the chamber fit, if tilted upwards, without the brackets holding it in place? if so, and it clears the hood, a new bracket could be easily made and it could be mounted w/o denting.

Been there, done that. The chamber that is on Moonies boat was the first one I did and I did not want to have to dent it too much. I got some scrap stainless stock from sjetrider and fabricated some extendo brackets. It allows the pipe to be turned upwards about 2 inches or so, you can only go so far before the outlet interferes with the fuel tank. You still have to whoop on the edge next to the hull and a little by the tank or it will rub. All in all I am not sure if it was worth it because I ran one in my SN last year befor the RN build up and I did not make any special brackets. I just caved that mother in and used the brackets for the B1 that come with it. This works just as well, you just have to dent it more to clear the tank. I like at least 3/4 or 1 inch clearance to allow for vibration and heat.

How are you going to get the lord mount to work on the top bracket?? If you run it hard mount like that I would think that you will have problems with cracking due to vibration.

we tried one of these on my ski last week with the wdk gas tank and it fits with no dents or mods.the lord mounts even work :shocked:

I think you're right. If it's rigidly mounted anywhere, something's gonna break.

Yep, I say just dent that sucka until it fits and run the stock brackets & lord mounts. I ran one for over a year like that and had no problems.

I ran it with stock mounting, dented chamber, and dented tank.

No issues.

I can barely make out from the pics what you've got going on there, but I think that with the flywheel cover bracket/lord mount you'll be fine. I don't believe you NEED two mounts. None of the TNT's I have use 2 mounts. They either have one to head or one to flywheel cover.

Hmmmmm. I ran this setup on my wifes old ski with only one lord mount - it worked out ok. But I didn't run it much.

What ive got now feels super solid.
