Blaster Paint or Wrap?

I just picked up a blaster in pretty rough shape. I am considering doing a wrap but i have no experience doing one. They cost around $300. Would it be cheaper/easier/look better to just have a shop spray it? Anyone go through this before? Any info is appreciated.

Thanks!

A wrap is great if you have a lot of patience and a good heat gun.
Or you could take it to a local MAACO and let them spray it for $250-$400.

Unless the hood has been repainted with a good primer, it's going to peel. Not great to do either without a proper prep of the hood.

I haven't wrapped anything before so I decided to paint. Thanks for the heads up Vumad! The old paint is flaking pretty bad so I have some sanding in store before I primer and paint. Completely sanded the hull today with some 80 grit to 100 to 140 to 200 grit. Looks decent probably should fill some cracks again...might not though! I'll post a pic when done if its not completely embarrassing. Thanks guys!

I hate repainting the hoods on SJ's. I don't understand why Yamaha didn't fix this issue sooner.

This one off an 08 had half of the paint peel off in big sheets and half was still solidly attached.

Wht did you primer it with and did it hold up? I wouod assume it would take a good epoxy primer to get anything to stick.

I dont think they have fixed it because they cant without retooling it. I think the joods are plastic and seep a release agent that over time causes the paint to delaminte. I think the only way to get the hood to last as long as the hulls would be to retool them to be made from a different material. Its like trying to weld cast aluminum.

I used the products from ColorRite, first Bulldog Adhesion Promoter then ColoRite primer and paint, 3 years on the black one and it still looks great.
