Blaster Seat Covering Help

I have had a HT seat cover hanging around for many months now, and finally decided to tear the old stocker off and redo the seat. I've got 1/4 inch stainless staples and a pneumatic staplegun to get the cover on, so I think I have that part covered. However, I'm not going to run those crappy plastic sides and I wanted to bounce my ideas off anyone that has done this before. I have attached a pic that shows what I think will make the seat pretty nice. If you have any input, please feel free to post up with any suggestions. I am going to keep this seat stock length, so I'm not looking to cut it down.

i used the black plastic things because i was too lazy to do what you are suggesting. i did however shave down the back foam with a hot knife. the sander didn't work well for me. i also cut the seat shorter, which i found to make side mounting much easier. i see you don't want to cut the seat itself down though.

looks like what you have planned will work fine. just a little more work than i was willing to do at the time when i covered mine. i

one tip i can give you to make it easier to wrap the cover is to use the dap weldood on the cover and seat foam and glue it to the seat as you work the bulges out of the cover with a heat gun and pulling. it makes it easier than trying to get the cover tight with staples alone.

here is a pic of mine with NO side covers / I used a long breadknife to shave the hump by laying the flatblade on the long part of the seat and cutting parallel with the seat , then use a DREMMEL tool with a flapdisk to smooth out the rough edges , the flapdisk will cut it like soft butter '' use 2 hands with one resting on the seat to steady the tool or its gouge city !,then pad it like you are doing........ after I did the work I took it to the upholstery shop ! FWIW

I finally got around to working on this thing some more. I took a belt sander and sanded the hump off the back. After that, I took 1/2 inch HT foam pieces and dap weldwood and filled in all the spaces. I then shaved down the styrofoam on the sides with a razor to get the sides somewhat "flat." I then pieced more scrap HT foam to put a full single layer over the plastic area. I came back with one more layer and ran it over the top foam piece then sanded it all down to be fairly seamless with a good contour. It looks really good in person. I'm gonna wait for it to warm up a bit before I put my black HT seatcover on so I can get it stretched out real tight.
