Blowsion Klowner Footholds

Hey gents,

New to Tampa and the X-H20. Been out of the sport for a while, but just recently bought an 03' SuperJet (my first, I'm a kawi convert) and have the bug again. I'm looking to install a set of footholds, and am steeling my nerve up for the job. I've never glassed before, and am pretty picky about sano jobs. I'm 6'3, 214, and wear size 11-12 shoes. I'm leaning more and more toward the Blowsion Klowners. The stock superjet tray is pretty tiny, and I think I would like the extra room to maneuver up front. I've also heard the backportion, where you lock in, is similiar in design/shape to the Waterdawgs, which I have heard A LOT about on this, and other sites. Are these the best of both worlds? Anybody have much experience with the Klowners and care to share some thoughts?

I've been riding almost every weekend north of Clearwater, FL near Dunedin....any Tampa Bay riders on this forum?

Thanks,

Mike

No info on Klowners, but...

I have the REV's, they're inexpensive and a bitch to install... I do not recomend them for first time installers, but on the other hand they are by far the best I have ever used (never tried Klowners)... My tray is as wide as a SXR tray now w/ these baby's. (minor fabrication required to rear of gunwhale)

I would venture to say that the Klowners will accomplish the same as the REV's w/o having to cut around the exhaust pipe (REV holds need to be modified to use on a Super Jet).. They are designed to be used on the REV hull, which is different than a SJ...

I did a set of klowners on an SJ not too long ago...these suckers are big for sure...The exhaust pipe does get in the way, but I just notched the footholds and then glassed over everything...They had their easy install times, and their hard install times just like alot will...Im doing a set of REVS on mine starting tomorrow so I will compare!

Klowners look like kickers to me with extra toe room...... which would allow only "clown" feet to fit, not neccasarly big feet. No point in all that room if the part that fits the top of the foot and ankle don't allow you to get into the hold.

i have an extra set sitting around if you like

Thanks much gents for the buy in. I wimped out and went with the full kit route from Wamiltons with the Cyclones. Wamilton's seems great to deal with so I figured in the least I'd check them out and if they don't seem to feet well out of the box, I'll swap em for a set of WCF. I saw some other picks of the Klowners, and they ARE pretty frigging big...had no idea. I do like the looks of the Waterdawg's though, but just don't trust my install skills well enough now to attempt them. Thanks again for a great response!!

I have a size 11 shoe and find that the footholds I use (very similar to wamiltons ones) are fine. Sire, I can't get my whole foot in there, but I don't need to. When I roll and have to bail, you can slip out of them easy without getting caught up which I like.

Alos, becuase I race, it's easy to switch feet nice and fast.

IF you are in the Tampa area get with Pat at X-metal he will hook you up and will also more than likely assist you with the install. I've known him for a few years now and he pretty cool to deal with. Give him a call at the shop 727-449-9353. You might want to also consider coming out and riding with us one weekend, we usually get together at least once a week over in Tarpon Springs. Always nice to add another rider to the group.

Wamilton's Cyclone Footholds & Mat Kit

I recieved my footholds and mat kit from Wamilton's on Friday, and after reviewing the online instructions, templates, and playing with the pieces a bit I think these are going to work out pretty slick. I can see where they might not be as comfortable (wouldn't know personally though) as perhaps the WDK's, or others with more of an ankle cut out. Especially if you prefer to have your feet more parallel in a freestyle stance. I've been trying to play around a bit with my stance (prior to the foothold purchase) to try and see where my feet end up naturally. I seem a bit more stable with a little slant to my stance, i.e. feet pointed out slightly, which I think will work well with the cyclones. I could also see where they might be tight for larger feet. I wear 11.5 and have be using JetPilot boots. I was playing around with the foodholds, and with full backing and padding added, I think it would be a little trickly to firmly seat your foot. However, per all the comments on this great board, I've ordered a set of Asics "Wrastlin" shoes, which should work great with this holds. Consequently, the holds do seem pretty thin from the factory. I've seen some recommendations to reinforce them in back. I would imagine that would entail running a few fiberglass strips around the outside of the footpocket (back of the mold) to thicken/stiffen it up a bit? Does the foam really add that much strength?

Appreciate the advice on the X-metal folks too. Talked to them once about some advice on pole lengths...although I opted to shorted the factory pole -3 inches, I can honestly see an X-metal pole (-2) in the near future. I didn't realize they did any type of install work though? I think I'll be able to handle this install (willing to try and learn anyway), but do those guys do scupper installs and trim cable hull inserts?? I'll see how the footholds/mat go, but don't think I am ready to be messing around below the waterline yet.

Last, very much appreciate the offer to linkup in the Tampa area. I've pretty much confined myself to Dunedin, not really knowing where else to ride. It would be great to meet some other standup afficionado's (never owned a sit down, never will) in my grid, and explore some other riding spots. Plus, having just gotten back into the sport (it has come a long, LONG way) I would really appreciate the opportunity to learn from some other riders and accellerate my freestyle learning curve a bit (if possible). I'd also like to get over to the coast. In other places I've lived, I never had the opportunity to do any real surfriding, and would really like to give that a shot. Looks like that's "Yamaslut's" territory?

Thanks again for all the great input, I'm really glad to have found this forum.

I'll post picks of the finished foothold/matkit install.
