Live on a lake and don't ride stand ups so much, would love to sell some stuff and maybe enjoy a V8 again.

Anyone have experience with speedboats around 20ft...Bajas, or others in the same class...Scarab, etc? Single engine.

Sounds like you would enjoy a wakeboard boat. Definitely look at a V drive with ballast. However if you like to slalom, a MasterCraft ProStar would be perfect.

I'm sure I would, but not looking to mortgage the house and don't think I want to start another painful hobby lol. Still recovering from some major surgeries and don't ride skis much anymore because of that. Just thinking about picking up a used short speedboat, love the look and sound.

A boat is just a bigger hull in the water to throw money into. Lol
I actually did have a Donzi 22ft problem that was given to me, had a 400hp 454 which I think was pretty hot for when it was made (84) I almost flipped it once when it was only running on 6 cylinders. But I think they way you ride stand ups you won’t have much fun in an eel cart like that. Jmo but I think you’d have more fun with a car If you want to build a v8 or fishing if you want a boat. The only thing I see as possibly being fun if you come from standups with a fast boat is maybe one of those river racing type things but idk if there would be many places to use it.

If you wan't something sketchy, scary and fun... look for at old flat bottom jet boat or v-drive. I used to come across them all the time on craigslist when I lived in Houston. They usually had a blown motor or one that needed work but they'd sell for $5k or less. They can easily hit 100 mph and make a lot of noise doing it. The only caveat is that they're really only good for glassy or relatively calm water.

I'd get something 96 or newer, with a mercruiser bravo drive. Newer the better generally, the older a boat gets the more headache they usually are. I've never owned a speed boat, but have repaired hundreds of them, ranging from 20' baja to 54' fountain.

Nice, those are beautiful boats! How much does that baby use in fuel on an average day?

It all depends if im going Matt Speed or Becca (Girlfriend) Speed. At Matt Speed (Cruising above 50), itll suck down some gas, but gas is so cheap these days, so I only quantify it in Smiles Per Gallon. At Becca Speed (Between 25-30), it is shockingly somewhat fuel efficient. I could boat all week on one take of gas at Becca Speed. But if you want a speed boat, just dont even consider fuel consumption....itll ruin all your fun.

I am going to suggest a flat wake producing water ski boat in which everyone will love you as "the driver."

Or better yet, a wake board boat which you can not only drive but can actually surf on that steep wave about six feet from the transom with no joint impact whatsoever.
