Hello all. I am new to the forum and I am coming here for some help. I have a 86 js550 that is giving me trouble. When running if I give it any more than half throttle it dies. It will start and idle and rev up slowly or if only given half throttle. When on the water it has enough umpf to get me out of the water and on plane. Only if opened up all the way it starts to bog down and die. Completely stalls in about 3-4 seconds if opened up all the way. Pulled the plugs after it dies and they are dry.
Here is what I have done to try and remedy the problem with no success.
1. Rebuilt the carb. Cleaned it and replaced all diaphragm's.
2. Bypassed the fuel on/reserve switch.
3. Cleaned fuel/water trap.
4. Thought it could need crank case seals and was not pulling enough vacuum for fuel. Broke down the motor and replaced all gaskets and seals. Only one not replaced was the head gasket (did this when I got the ski and have not removed the head since).
5. Pulled off the vent hose on the tank to see if it was locked up allowing it to free flow.
The carb is a BN38 round body. Only mods the ski had is an intake filter and adapter. All stock with 120psi compression.
