Bonding

This west systems 610 thickened epoxy comes in a caulking style tube with replaceable mixing tips. Makes for quick, clean work with very little to no cleanup required. I'd use this to bond the two pieces together then reinforce with glass.

That stuff is expensive for what you get. That is nothing more than west epoxy with slow cure hardener pre thickened with cabosil. Just mix it yourself, put it in the corner of a zip lock bag and save yourself a bunch of money.

There are definitely cheaper options out there no doubt. However, to me, it was worth little extra money for convenience as well as super easy clean up and ease of use.. the method you mentioned will work just fine too.

I have done it both ways, if you already have epoxy then mix up some cabosil and go for it, just realize unless you have tropical hardener your working time goes down to nothing , this is totally dependent on the on air temp where you are of course , in the winter months you could probably get away with regular hardener.

when you increase the density of the epoxy by adding cabosil you increase the rate of exothermic reaction of the epoxy as well , if you have to buy tropical hardener just for this purpose then you didn't save any money mixing it yourself.

I have also bought cheap tubes of caulk before , emptied the tube out, washed it out then mixed the epoxy and cabosil inside the tube with a drill and paint mixer and put the plastic cap back in , that worked pretty out well.

Years ago I used to be able to buy epoxy used to build satellites that was out of date, it had really thick fiberglass strands mixed into it already , the epoxy was yellow and when mixed with the hardener it turned purple, it came in 4 gallon pails and was dirt cheap , the curing time on it was seven days , on epoxy generally the longer the cure time the stronger the bond is , after it cured the bond was ridiculously strong , I put quite a few decks and hulls back together it till I couldn't get it anymore.

But........we still don't really know WHAT the OP is bonding. ALL of this information might be moot if bonding the rubber nose back onto a SN....
I am assuming when he said he was bonding a new nose on a ski that it was Metton-SMC or FRP to Metton -SMC , I may be making an ass out of u and me though.
