Boris and his SN conversion.

The Good Old Days
Yesterday I picked up a Watercraft Factory top deck and a SN hull for a good price so I guess it's build time.
This will be a long build as I have a perfectly good, running ski right now so don't expect any all nighters out of me but I do intend to see it to the end.

All I know is I intend this hull to be semi-light, strong and ready for surf.
It will have provisions for trim, tubbies, a scupper tube with oneway valve and may or may not be shortened.

What I do know is that it will have an X-metal pole, X-metal steering, an X-metal scupper and just about anything else that comes from X-scream.
Motor will be my Chucky built 701 out of my current ski as I don't think I will outgrow that any time soon.

Those are my plans so let's see what comes out in the end.

P.S. Before anyone asks. The hull will be any color as long as it's black. Flat black.

This is what I have so far. Impressive, isn't it.

Scuppers, if done right are the cats meow and I love mine. They will sink a ski if it's left up side down for a while (try not to) but other than that mine never let a drop of water in.

My current ski has the 24/7 scupper (what's left of it) so this time I will run the X-metal one to stay with one manufacturer.

thats cool. i thought you were going with the xmetal scupper because you thought they were good. they stretch, rip, bend, leak and completely blow out. ive had to replace the rubber on mine 4 times in less than 2 years. i dont care who makes them. i wouldnt install another one on my boat. eveything else pat makes is top notch, though. if he could find some decent rubber material, theyd be great scuppers.

The X-metal scupper has one thing going for it that is very important to me.
If and when it fails like they all do, a replacement part is only a phone call away.
My 24/7 one failed some time ago and I gave up jumping through hoops to buy the needed parts. Now I just have the trim ring and rely on my one-way valve.
This hull will have the one-way valve as well as the scupper as this setup has worked great for me thus far.

The biggest issue I will have is weather to shorten the hull or not.
Since I'm not planing on any flat water back flips I might skip this step but who knows.

good points. one thing to think of is if you decide to go with an angled shortened hull, youre going to want to put the scupper in the pump cavity and not on the transom.

I forgot!
yeah the scupper no workie when on the angle.....well mine didn't, my buddy steve's 24/7 one work perfect after he modded it to allow it to flap up really far without bending the alum backing plate of the flap. my current ski i dumped it into the pump area. shortend hulls are fun to ride even if your never going to backflip. they just take a little getting used to. nice topdeck, i am watching this thread for shore!

1 way>scupper

Exactly.
I have the oneway and scupper on mine because at the time I was doing the drain peoples opinions were mixed. I killed 2 birds with one stone.

Now that I have had the scupper/oneway setup for some time I am able to form my own opinion which is that the oneway is the best. The scupper I will still add on for looks as I'm not a fan of just an open pipe in the rear.

I like the look of dual scuppers in the rear but that might be overkill, one is more than enough.

Agree 100%... I will be adding a oneway on my RN when I re-foam in the next month or two...

The one-way / 24/7 scupper combo that Ihave on my SN is the shizzle, but I might try the new scupper that the Ski Clinic is doing........

You ride surf, correct? Don't bothere shortening it!

You got it for such a good deal don't make it any worse on yourself.

I like how "old" sqaure bottoms ride, usually the chines are chewed down on them pretty good. Makes it nice and loose. Or at least my sqaure was super loose.

you got that ski done yet, boris?

Not quite.:dunce:

I'm still in the planing stages and right now I'm trying to score a hull with a title. Was also thinking about aftermarket hulls.
Don't have a clue what one would cost (just the hull) but might be interesting.

Finally picked up a gasket set for my car engine (took them 3 tries to get me the right stuff) so the car is going to be priority #1 while the ski waits.

x metal scuppers are flawless......yes the OLD scupper flaps rip and fail but the NEW flaps seal perfectly and aren't wearing like the old ......so please get your facts straight before blasting any xmetal product....i don't work there but i do know that they are the best in the biz and i have dealt with others.....Pat is constantly making his products better and improving them for the benefit of the riders....:arms:

Boris did i just not see you in daytona? or did you not go

Boris did i just not see you in daytona? or did you not go

Why did you go there ?:chairshot:

No, I didn't go and am still pi$$ed. Matter of fact, I haven't been on my ski since I got it all ready for the ride. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

No need to keep the scupper debate going, my ski will be X-METAL all the way.
