bought a modded SJ. starting question?

I just bought a modded up superjet, full msd, b pipe, new crank, pistons, reeds, girdled head, compression 175, etc. all the goodies. It seems to run good, but I've never rode a stock sj 701 for comparison.

I personally think it's hard to start. Is there a key to starting modded superjets? It's got a primer. I'm just curious if people hit the primer 1 time, 5 times, then hold throttle 1/4, or what are the tricks people use.

Or, should the ski just fire right up without doing much? Maybe it had some bad gas from over the winter, and when I put some fresh gas in it, it will fire up better. Just curious, since this is my 1st SJ 701 modded ski

Any tips or comments much appreciated, thank u

A stock SJ will typically crank right up, maybe take a bit of choke. A modded SJ, all depends on how it is tuned. Mine requires a few shots of primer and it kicks right over. Personally I like the fact that I am injecting some fuel before trying to crank, this way the cylinders are not totally dry.

Does things to makes the do goods
Also consider how the ski is stored may have affect on ease of start up. My motor fires up with a blip of the starter since its tuned well. But 1 night sitting on the beach with the hood on and a bit of moisture/ condensation can make its way in making it more difficult to fire up.

Have practically the same ski. On a healthy battery I prime it 3-5 times where you can feel the fuel pressurize, hit the start button and maybe sometimes hold the throttle slightly open. Shouldn't give you much trouble

I'd like to get mine starting with a blip, because it has a new high torque starter, that I would like to keep in good shape.
I'd only run oem starters just my opinion after market ones have never worked out for me tuned correctly after priming once the ski should easily fire immediately with out having to re prime

On my 94, I crank and it starts. Probably means its too rich. On the 90 when it hasn't been fired yet we crank with the choke pulled, it fires up. After that we just crank and it fires.

Well, guys, I kept the SJ on the lift, just out of the water, primed it 3-5 times, and it fired up 1st turn, so, thanks for the advice.. Very please with that... But, here's an issue, and I'm curious if anyone can provide me with some different advice.

I was running the ski, and it ran real good. I was probably riding a good 10mins or better when I fell off the ski. I went to start it, and it wouldn't start. Just turned over. I tried numerous attempts to start, with no luck, so I swam the ski to shore. At shore, I decided to try and get it started, I held the start button, and was giving it throttle, and at wide open throttle it started to sound like it was going to start, then did so, went back to running fine. As a test, I brought it back to shore/shallow and hit the stop button. Went to start it again, and it didn't want to fire back up. Why would a warmed up and good running ski, not want to fire back up? Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds..
