Super Jet Bought a RN Have Motor Questions

Hey guys just bought a RN yesterday for a hell of a deal. I checked the compression and the rear cylinder had 150 psi and the front was at 65 psi. I bought the ski anyway because of all the mods it had and what a deal it was even if the motor needs some work. I know that without opening up the motor and inspecting it is hard to tell what it needs but…. Who would you guys recommend in the Tampa FL area to get it looked at? Also if it does need just a top end kit (hopefully) where should I get it from and what is the best bang for your buck? The ski has a 62T motor, jetted carbs, BIG pipe (thought it was an xmetal factory but its not), msd ignition. I am very mechanically inclined and would love to rebuild it myself if anyone is willing to supervise for some beers in the Tampa area. Let me know.

Thank in Advance

Does it have a stock or aftermarket cylinder head? If it is stock, it might only need a head gasket. If it is an aftermarket, it might only need a new o-ring. I would check these items first before you spend a lot of money on diagnostic fees or top end kits.

no real supervision required. Just pull the eight head bolts out and pop the head, post some pics and I'm sure everyone will help from there!!! I rebuilt my first on last season and I couldn't believe that it was as simple as it was. Also just an fyi if that is the original motor it should be a 62t/61x

62t bottom end
61x top end

all round nose supersets came with this set up from 1996 to current

Bigred z thats what I figured I have rebuilt my dirtbike motor (RM250) a few times just dont want to jump into anything where the crank may be scored or something and I miss it without it being properly inspected. The motor is a 62T bottom end 61X top end like you stated. Any suggestions for a rebuild kit?

If you have rebuilt top ends on dirtbikes this will be just as simple.
I recomend you remove the cylinder completely and check the sleeves and pistons and all. Worse case it cost you a base gasket. If it needs more have it bored and buy the next size up pistons. While the pistons / cylinder is out inspect the crank for play or skoring / pitting in the rod ends where the wrist pin goes.

I like to know what I have and hopefully keep from trashing cranks, cases and more.
But if you wanna go on the risky / cheaper side then remove head and check o-rings.

sjetrider thank you for the info. I am in the exact same boat as you I want to make sure what I have is in top condition. I would like to prevent any issues down the road even if it means spending some extra coin now rather than hoping everything is good. I will take it apart tonight and see whats going on and keep you posted. Where do you get your pistons etc from sjetrider?

What kind of pipe is this?????

I got it for $1,600. Twist aluminum head, exhaust, footholds, 0 degree UMI handlebars, ODI grips, aluminum handle pole, waterdawg hood brackets, hood straps, aluminum waterbox, blowsion billet fittings, camo hydroturf, glassed in footholds, dual jetted carbs, riva ride plate, scoop intake grate, prop, bilge pump, etc.

topshelf1901 no it didnt catch fire he painted the gas tank with a rattle can I suppose and all the paint is flaking off. It is in serious need of some cleaning in the engine compartment. I have all that ripped out as we speak, just have to undo the motor mounts and pull it out.

mdavies_02 the ski is an 02. I pulled the head and the o-ring on the cylinder with low compresion was broken see pics, the top of the pistons look okay, and the walls are not scored or anything visable to the naked eye. I tried finding twist heads online and I could not find anything, where would I get a new o-ring at I mean I can get the specs of the o-ring close with a micrometer but..... Seriously thank you everyone for all the responses it is greatly appreciated!!

i thought the twist heads only used a gasket. maybe someone milled the head for an o'ring, i know the twist head gasket are like no where to be found thats why i got rid of the one i had, it is a good head. as i said some one milled groves for the o'rings call x-scream at 727-442-7700 have rick ask chuck if they did do o'rings on those heads? most likley the same as ada orings if they did... rebuild kit, gaskets or and service needed, tuned set up ect... x-scream does all my work and i own a auto repair shop. i like to hit the start button and ride..
