BrApJaCks!!!!!

I must be the only person not happy with Art's carb mods...granted, they're not Blackjacks, but the mods done to my stock 38's just would never run right.

I had to bump up the idle way too high to get any kind of smooth lower-rpm response out of them. Maybe that's standard practice for surf, I don't know?

They responded very well to even slight tuning changes...but would never run well across the entire rpm range.

I ran the gamut of screw settings, various pilot jet sizes and pop-off pressures, and nothing ever ran as good as stock carbs. So, I bought another set of stock 38's (and an unfilled intake) and everything is good again.

Goes to show there are people that can dial in carbs and then there are people that should not touch them...............

what's a race carb? what's a freestyle carb? all i read was that buckshots sucked, i took the time to tune it, kawasaki's just dont react well with low pop-off, it's not all that bad just doesnt have the low end response. have to get it above 1/4throttle for it to come on. it had some unreal mid range power i just dont understand how carbs are classified as freestyle or races.

i'm on the right track the best carb. jmo. i believe you set your ski up for racing or free style. even tho i dont race my ski is race ready, i just set bouys and enjoy turning a few.

:confused:thats odd, did you ever talk to Art about the jetting? if not, there was your first mistake.

not to get too off topic but i run Jetworks dual 38's (crossover filled/2 stage carbon reeds) and love them.i she purrs on idle and is very snappy. this was the first set of carbs i had ever touched. Art walked me right threw tuning and even calls me every once in a while just to say hi and see how the ski is running.

ive ridden boats with big carbs and im still happy with my modded 38's (till i can afford bj's). if you are thinking about getting blackjacks and just dont have the money, his modded 38's are a good alternative to get some more response and keep your fuel economy.

I run a set of his mod 38 on Ericas sj and they work great the little 701 hits like a hammer.I have a set of 44 bj for it but the 38s work so good i never put them on.

i got some 44's from art.he jetted em for my b pipe and set the pop off.added a throttle coupler and modified the shafts to fit my bcw manifold.i will have to say.these are the forst set of carbs that were absolutley turn-key.i ran the recommended settings for the mixture screws and havent even had to tune em yet!great carbs.just need to get a different prop.

Should have known the fan club would come out in full force...you don't know me or the history of what I tried, so the personal derision is unwarranted.

Hey genius, did you ever think there might be a reason I am the president of the Jetworks fan club? I have bought all the other BS on the market and then bought BlackJacks last. I love the carbs and I love the support you get from Art and Robert! Art Gomez IS the smartest man on the planet when it comes to 2smokes and if you ever got to know him, he is pretty dam smart when it comes to alot of things in life.

Nuff said.

I tuned in the Blackjack carb on 98gti's ski a month or so back, without a doubt the easiest carb I have ever tuned in on a modded ski ,bar none.

It's kinda funny how the Full Spec bandwagon is slowin down a little these days. Some guys in SFL that are willing to spend endless amounts of money are now buyin the cheapest carbs on the planet. You can buy a pair of BlackJacks for what one Full Spec or Novi costs. Kinda crazy if you ask me.

Personally I don't care what everyone else runs as long as they leave my BlackJacks alone!

I ran some of the modded 38s and they hit so much better then the taperbored 44s. They were so easy to tune. I wish I would of pulled em off my last sj before I sold it. Still kicking myself in the ass

I find it amazing that nobody can even consider that Art can make a mistake. Well, in my opinion that is what happened. I still like the guy, and if you'll notice my posts NEVER bashed anybody personally. Some day, when I have some free time, I will get to the bottom of the problem with these carbs and post my findings. Until then, like I said, the modded 38's are not on my ski. And yes, I've talked to Art many, many times.

- I didn't get my original carbs back because Art cracked them doing his mods
- my original carbs had brand new mikuni rebuild parts installed (less than 5 gallons thru) that I also did not get back
- the carbs I did receive had some wrong parts installed (not the jets but other stuff)
- I also, after a MONTH of phone calls and e-mails, never got the Epic curve file I was promised to go along with the 83mm bore and port work I also had done. I had to create my own.

So, there's my opinion, based on my experience...and guess what? I'm entitled to it. You obviously have your own and I'm happy for you.

Thank you. I am sorry to hear that your experience was not as good as mine. I have just run into sooooo many people that don't follow Art's instructions to the T and are then pissed because their stuff don't work. IMO the best thing you can do is deal with one person and do exactly as they say until that just does not work-then find another builder.
