I always asked the same question and wondered why it was never done. My 98 GSXL had the 951 rated at 130HP while my 2003 summit X had the 800 Rotax at 160HP. Seemed like a no brainer to me.

I was always told the hull limited the size of the pipes required to get the power and without clutches to harness that power, that the 800 would be a dog in a watercraft.

I always wondered about the E-TEC also, we have 2 800 summits and the 160+ hp would be sweet in a jetski.
I read @tntsuperjet is or was involved with snowmobiles, wonder if Tim has experience with this motor

I dont know anything about sleds, but it seems by first glance to be the best donor, if not some sort of ATV 2 stroke twin.
But maybe the powerband of a sled will not suit the powerband to keep the jet pump efficient ? Ive tried to find som hard data and content about efficiency of smaller jet pumps (jetski size, not later vessel size). But the sweet spot seems to be around 7000- maybe 8000rpm.
There is a Finnish guy who has some sort of Frankenstein engine in his AM hull, either a Sled block or jetski block, but with fuel injection from a sled.

But defiantly a very interesting project!

The more I think about it, the more I think it was actually something mentioned in a conversation with him at Daytona.

Ducky and I were talking about sled motors when he was walking by, heard us and and joined in. We didn't even know who he was, lol.

Hahaha! We were just casually talking on the first floor balcony, have a drink and talking about motors and all of a sudden some guy comes outside and joins our conversation and we were kind of like "Who TF are you buddy?" and he was like "Hi, Im tim tynan." OCD and I look at each other and were like "Lets keep this tim guy talking and absorb all the knowledge"

You can put the 800 motor in.
I have a 880 cat motor I did in a ski.
But the 800 won't make 160 hp in a watercraft with a wet pipe.
Even a dry pipe that will allow the motor to pull off the bottom as needed for direct drive you gonna drop 10hp.
But the rest of the motor is all good to go.
Port timing isn't to crazy.
But I personally wouldn't use 800 Etec.
You need to find a 800 mod motor from skidoo mxzx.
There 190hp.
