Budget Flatwater Backflip Ski

Okay I know this is a hard thing to accomplish due to flatwater backflip skis being expensive. I live on Smith Mountain Lake and owned a 96 Superjet and loved it but want something more playful as in doing flatwater flips and flips off boat wakes. I'm not looking to cruise around or anything. Figured id come in here and ask the pros what you guys think would be the best hull and engine combo to complete the job around $7,500 if possible. I have the knowledge to assemble a ski but figure one already built would save money?

Hulls I've been looking at are California Freestyle Phantom, Superfreak Titan, WDK RIP.

Only way I could see a 7500 budget being doable is if you have most of the parts on hand. I built my first superjet for around 4k or so but I already had a bpipe setup. I paid 1500 for the hull with a rrp pole and hood, a 93 square nose 650 and 95 raider both not running for 600 bucks but complete. From the sj, I got the tank, waterbox, start/stop switch, hardware for the straps and pump with driveshaft as well ss the midshaft. Used the electronics, engine, carbs, midshaft housing and couch mounts Did a hone and new pistons/rings on the 701. Crank was bad in the 701 so i used the crank from the 650, new seals, carb kits, 650 head on the 701 for a lil more 'pression. $250 for a used hooker 9/15 impeller. And 800-1500 for a pipe. That was a "budget of budget builds for tona." that doesn't include the miscellaneous things you'll need like hardware, hoses, fuel line, clamps and such. A decent flatwater setup complete that will flatwater flip will run you about 15-20k.

I dont think a rip would be a good option, I have the weapon from Water Dawg Kustomz and its the best ski I have every owned. Its flipable.

Buy a AM hull with a pole and steering setup on it already. Can find plenty in the 4-5k range. You should easily be able to source the rest of your parts for a mild 701 build a/oem pump with the rest of your 2-3k if you look around. Obviously some assembly required but I’d say for 8k you could have a nice hull with a reliable setup for wake flips that you could build up if you play your cards right.
Do not cheap out on the hull!!! Wish I would’ve went to a nice AM hull to start looking back would’ve saved a ton of money.
If you are willing to do most of your own engine work you can have a pretty snappy piped 701 with a milled oem head and home porting.

Any specific AM hull recommendations?

This might help you get more familiar with the different hulls out there.

Yeah that's as good of deal you'll find.. if you don't like the hull, you'll at least have a good powerplant and exhaust for another hull. A friend had one for a bit and did his first surf flip on it. With a kawi 750 engine and pump as well

You can ship most skis to a business address for around 7-1000 if you do decide to ship one
