Budget SN Superjet build

I couple years back I bought a SN superjet for $175, was very happy with the purchase and still am. The ski ran strong for about a year before a bearing went out on the crank. In the meantime I have been riding my stock 750sxi but would love to get the sj back running again. I would love to get some more bottom end power out of the sj. My original plan of attack was to rebuild the 650 motor and sell that then buy a 701 and throw that in there. Im looking to get this running on a budget but want the best I can get for my money for lake riding and jumping. If you were to be in this situation what would be your plan of attack on what motor is the best bang for the buck and other mods that would be essential for low end torque. I will more then likely mill the head down and get it running a little better as well.

Dont waste your money or time rebuilding the 650. You can you find 61x/61x 701 engines for 400+. For more bottom end power go with the 701, milled head, pipe, and get a lower pitched prop. Would also help to dig all of the wet foam out of the tray and put in new foam.

It will cost you more to rebuild the 650 then you could sell it for best thing you could do is just buy a 61x 701 and drop it in use all your same parts and ride the hell out of it! Keep a eye out for a goo deal on a pipe and head or if you want to go new jetmanic is the man for anything you could need.

Good luck, I started this fall with a "budget build"...it has now spiraled out of control lol (modest money for some on here, but a lot for me)...but man am i excited to get it finished...get back on the SJ you won't look back!

All builds always get out of control cause you find yourself always wanting more. Mill the head, turn static timing up 3deg, get a good prop and intake. This will make a dramatic improvement over stock and not cost much at all

Once you go with the 701 you are going to want more. Right now there is a great deal on a 781 bigbore for 2300 that you should get. =)

I understand the concept of an actual budget...If it were me I'd buy another 300 hundred dollar 650 engine that pops up here sometimes then go thrash my 475 dollar superjet for another 3 seasons.

You will get a little bit more power by buying a drop in 701 but you will spend at least a grand to make it worth while...

Yes it will bolt right up but you right away have an issue with your electronics. Your wide open throttle is now constantly rev limited by like 800 rpm. round a hundred bucks for a 61x cdi i think? I don't even know what they go for right now. Most are going to tell you to go aftermarket at that point for another couple hundred.

Your carb jets are wrong and will need to rejet. Your 650 exhaust will bolt up to a 61x or 61x/62t motor but not a 62t. You basically just need to buy a b-pipe along with your new engine and the jets for it.

At that point you realize your stock prop sucks so you need one of those too.

If you want to run on a budget I stongly suggest you deal with your original 650 motor or just buy one to drop in. If you want to drop some coin on your superjet after its running BUY A PROP. I've said it before but I will say it again a properly running 650 superjet with a prop is a GREAT time.

50$ from Jetmanic

I think I paid 3$ per jet locally and you can get a Riva or Protec pipe for 200 or less shipped.

Used from 50-200$, then again have you looked to see if you already have an a/m prop?

So at the most you might have to put 456$ into your 701 to make it a performer. Figure $585 with a high comp head to balance it out. Of course you don't have to do it all at once either. One upgrade a season or every couple months wont break the bank.

A b-pipe alone cost more than 456 in the pooptiest of conditions and I didn't even factor in in the cost of maintenance of the 701 during that 3 year period.

For safe and reliable choose stocker. The 650 yamaha is the most reliable engine in jet ski.

It's just my 2cents so realize I do not wish to argue TOO hard about this....but budget means budget.

You have to expand the quote to see what I wrote in the previous post.

Thanks for letting me know about the expansion function I hate the new forum software.

Anyways, 50 for what? You are suggesting the op buys crappy pipes. Come on man, b-pipe, b-pipe, ... what GOOD prop cost's 50 bucks????? What are you hiding???? I like to think someone with a propped superjet doesn't sell for 175 dollars lol.

Buy another stock engine or fix yours than enjoy all that superjet mojo op, its awesome...as you probably know.

$50 for a 61x cdi with 30 day warranty from Jet maniac. Not everyone needs a bpipe and they can always upgrade later. I have seen props for as low as 50$. I paid 100$ a few weeks ago for a brand new Solas Concord. The deals are out there. Anyway putting money into or buying a 650 is taking a step backward. If nothing else at least buy a stock 701 and just run that. It will be worth the 6$ for new jetting. ;)

The point of my comments is strongly suggested by the op's position...budget MEANS budget and I can honestly say after 2 1/2 seasons on a 650 superjet my ski strongly outweigh my skill.

Every ride I learn something new and love every moment under throttle. ...and it's all because of my old superjet...on a budget....

Quinc you brought up a point I didn't make. You buy a used 701 engine then what? You do not know anything about this engine.....lol....any used engine for anything 95 percent chance something needs worked on. 650 superjet is the meal ticket for the poor thrashaholic...lol.

I have yet to read anything that said 701's where anything but bullet proof.

There is nothing to read. But they break.

650's do to but they are so damn tame it takes a lot longer....someone might have one that runs like poop but there is probably something else wrong if you cant go out and have some fun on it....and the guys that say its a total dog have stock props...lol

From a guy on a budget who wants his ski to start everytime and go out freeriding if you yourself are on a budget and already have a 650 and you want to make your superjet run again it's as close to free as it gets baby. Reliable, fun, and most importantly dirt cheap.
