Build Your Own Pole

Has anybody build their own aluminum handlepole? I don't mean the old style, I mean the tubular RRP style pole. Is there much engineering behind a non-adjustable aluminum pole?
I'm getting close to buying an RRP pole and bracket, but I'm a little weary on droppin $1150 + shipping on pole and bracket (once you convert to Canadian currency it's like $6000 haha).
I see Lenzi's new boat has a phuct up new pole on there, looks like someone jimmy-tigged it all together.

Lower cost alternatives: Goose (Bill) pole, XR Tech (snowxr) pole, build your own (not that hard really if you have the equipment/skill), buy used.

I build this pole for my 550 I haven't ran it yet and everyone I talked to on PWCToday doesn't think its strong enough but I really think it is. I have mounted it up and really horsed on it and its pretty beef in my opinion. And for my flatdeck 550 that will never be ridin in surf or beat on it will be fine. But if you have the aluminum and the tig/possibly mig set up to weld you could make your own pole. A bandsaw helped in my case and a polishing wheel that is nice to polish your aluminum parts. That is my 2 cents. - Tanner

I wish someone would make a composite based pole with alloy ends and fill it with floatation so that the ski would right itself if it got rolled in the surf instead of lying upside down until it sinks...........It would also be cool if someone made one that had a counterbalance spring to make the pole feel lighter without binding, yet would still lay down naturally on it's own.

oh, wait....that's what the factory pole is! :scratchchin:

I have never had a problem with the stock pole.

Word!

I beat my ski in the surf and have never run more than a stock pole with glass wraped top and bottom piece.

Are people really breaking poles? or does everyone just want the alum look?
