I always hear builders talk about how much work ADA cylinders are to setup. I am just wondering how much is the average labor charge for a builder to work your ada top end kit? Are these ADA 5mm and 8mm setups lacking in todays motors compaired to the newer dasa, x metal, etc. cylinders with powervavles setups and such?

Mcdog is running the last gen ADA setup from Jetworks and it hits nice...all day long from bottom to top rather than a yank your arms off hit at such-and-such RPM. I'd like to have an engine that can pull anywhere in the rev range. With the right builder (insert Art or LPW here) I'd be as happy with an ADA engine as any PV setup. I can't speak from experience, but for me it seems as though there is less opportunity for mechanical failure with a non-PV setup.

Sportfish258 has the new ADA cylinder package (951cc I believe). The engine always felt like it had tons of power but it's tough to say how the engine really is because his hull was always insanely heavy. Maybe he can comment. I believe he ran it unported originally and just recently had it ported.

IMO if your going to build a new motor, XScream or Dasa billet cylinder is the only way to go.... Been running XS billet PV motors for the last 2-3 yrs in saltwater, never a problem & I ride, A L O T... I had a 6mil/ADA Xscream motor, you just can't compare non pv to pv setups...

Experience speaks volumes...i've never heard you Xmetal guys wanting/needing more power. Have you had to change the bellows or any parts to the PV's?

I have played with some ada cylinders and while the quality is ok there is alot of work to get them to run decent. The direction of the transfers is way off and this needs to be corrected before it starts to make power. If you were after a billet engine then I would go for a scream one there quality and accuracy in the programing is spot on. I personally would run a dasa as there is more power in there after you spend the hours fixing the mistakes in them. Then again I dont have to pay for my labour so I can afford to do it

Never done anything to my PV's... Once and awhile I pull the PV's off & clean the oil build up out.... But we ride these ski's a lot

Always need more power... never enough & never happy

I think for surf riding there is a point of enough power, the trick is how much does it cost to get to that point. Maintanence interval is a personal thing, you can take care of it frequently or when it needs replacement of all parts. PV's need cleaning, its a fact, if you choose not to then you will anyways, most likely when your riding.

Our east coast surf 850cc SS PV setup is perfect, not to much but just right imo I had a FS1/XS1000 & it was great, but to much for surf

Right now I'm rocking a 61X/61X for my surf ski until my new Surf Freak is ready which I'm dropping a 850cc SS PV based motor

It really comes down to how much you want to spend to get there. I agree, for a surf motor you only need so much and a SS 800 or so BB really is about perfect, especially for east coast, but even bigger wave or cali type surf seems to come into play,Ive seen alot of the pros move up to bigger motors and they are doing some sick stuff that didnt happen on a 701. A build with a nice linear pull, that still gets over 2 hours ride time is where its at
