Building an am hull

probably a dumb question but if I was starting with no parts, besides the cost of the hull what should I expect to pay for all parts needed to build an am ski? Just wanting to start with a basic 701 setup I think. Thanks for the help

I'm almost 10k into my hurricane. And that's not including buying a squarenose for all the parts.

Rebuilt engine. Rebuilt Pump. Powerfactor. Fuel tank. Pole. Bracket. There's a ton of misc you need, but a complete ski.

Jetmaniac is going to be your new best friend! He can supply a those little things and usually good used parts, Don't need to buy a donor ski if you work with him.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm gonna start with a stock Superjet possibly found one close to me a 2014. I'll probably build up that for a while and make the switch to am at a way later time

We can say the obvious of a motor, pump, etc, but that's not what is going to kill you. Things like motor are obvious. What's going to kill you is all the little things like bolts to hold the bed plate to the motor mounts, shims, not all hulls come with the little stainless clips that hold the fuel tank / waterbox straps to the hull mounts. Precisely what you need is going to depend on what you choose. Some hulls come with pole brackets installed. If you buy one that doesn't then you will need a pole bracket but also the bolts to hold that bracket on. Sure, a few bolts doesn't seem like much, but when you have to order a few hundred in various shapes and sizes, it's going to get overwhelming. If you want the nice OEM hardware with washers and lock washers built in that costs more than your typical bolts.

No, I haven't built an AM hull so I don't know the exact cost but I have considered what it would take. I parted out a few skis past and have a fair collection of hardware on hand decently organized. When I get a ski I want to put back together and have to dig through all that hardware looking for matching sets of specifics it's a very daunting task. People buying donor skis is not just a cost saving measure. It makes for a very good starting point so you have a lot less to try to piece together.

This Krash Starter Kit thread will help you get a pretty good idea.

The list of items included are pretty extensive at each stage. If you buy a hull without those items included, you will also need to purchase hardware and shims to mount it all. You don't just say, "I need 10 feet of cooling line." You say, "I need 10 feet of cooling line, 2 tees, a flush kit, 15 hose clamps, a flow control valve, 3 pissers..."

Any 90s yamaha with a 700 will have everything you need. It doesn't need to be a superjet. Anything else you will want new. You can easily put a am hull together with a tube style pole, 700 engine, b pipe, and a good setup pump, for under 10k, including the cost of a new hull.
Oem yamaha parts aren't that expensive and you get free shipping.

I did this, and went through chris (jetmaniac) and he hooked me up with a awesome package deal, and even after it was all said in done I still spent roughly 14k to get my ski rtr but that's counting price I paid for the hull as well and I agree with everything said above its not the engine or pump or any other big purchase that kills you its al lthe little things that nickel and dime you that you don't think about when budgeting your build. if your wanting a basic 701 set up I would say buy a used sn or something to part swap from, and then you could either sell the hull of build a second ski out of it later lol

I just got done doing this. Jetmaniac and McMaster Carr will be making lots of deliveries. I picked up a used SuperFreak and H2O products 148 pump and skat prop. Those were the big ticket items. Then Trim. That was 5500.00 just for those items. Transplanted everything from a freestyle superjet. I still spent close to 500.00 on misc stuff. Granted I replaced all the cooling lines in hull.

I'd say build it from scratch not from a complete. If you're waiting on a hull getting laid up or you have a while just gather parts slowly that come up on here for sale, it'll be cheaper in the end. There's a thread on here that lists all the bolts you'll need for everything and McMaster Carr will have them. Will turn out cleaner than getting someone's beat salty superjet and swapping it.

It definitely depends on where you buy stuff, too. The difference between $3.50 and $2.10 for a general bolt or screw really adds up when you need 50+ bolts or other parts. It's almost stupid because it seems like stuff that you should be able to take for granted, lol. Go first to Jetmanaic for sure like others have said, then shop around to different OEM part houses.
