I have one similar that I also sunk some cement towards the tail end of it and put a big stainless eyebolt in it. I use it to put a monstrous cable through, then thru my rear bow eye and I lock her up. :)

That is a good idea, I was thinking about putting some kind of lock through the rear eyebolt and then attaching it somehow to the dock post as a lock
 
Go with the casters idea. Or cut a kitchen cutting board into strips and screw it down with the screws below the top surface of the board.

For bunk glides on my trailer I used composite deck board ripped down (table saw) to the width of the 2x4 then the edges done with a 1/4" round router. I bought the $20 board because it was flat on the bottom. I got 3 glides that were 8 feet long, 1.5" wide and 1" tall.
