Bummed in Az

i ride a stock RN superjet. im putting footholds in as we speak but really cant afford the mods i seem to need to attempt the tricks i dream about.. a backflip off a boatwake with my SJ probably wont happen but maybe in time i can build my ski up. any of you guys riding surf and have the right mods, feel blessed. i would kill to be in your shoes.. that is all

Most of us started off small. In fact, most of us started out with a kawi or a SN instead of your nice RN. Over the years, we've built up enough parts to make a nice ski. Small steps...

While Pros may have the biggest budget skis and would seem to have all the advantages, the top names in Freestyle can also go out and do things on bone stock skis that would seem impossible to most. Expensive parts are good but balls and talent are still key elements and practice, practice, practice, is still the best advice out there.

OK, this is very puerile, but:

In England, "bummed" is childhood slag for gay sex, so "bummed in az" struck me as funny somehow.

OK, back on topic.... You don't need any mods to do lots of tricks, and only a few small mods to start learning most of them. Just because all you see on videos is aerial tricks, doesn't mean that there aren't a bunch of fun tricks that you can learn. They're fun to so and your friends will love watching.

Think about subs (jump, spin), bulldogs, 360's, rodeos, fountains, all sorts of other hood riding tricks, monkey jumps, 50-50's. You can start on all those straight from stock. Don't be intimidated by the adrenalin junkies who have forgotten (or never knew) how much fun it is to learn and master finesse tricks - just go enjoy your ski.

And with footholds you are all set to try anything anyway. It's a shame to be unhappy because you can't afford more mods when I bet you haven't tapped into 10% of the things you can do with the ski you've got.

surface tricks arent my cup o tea Brit. im not alive unless im flyin. im an adrenaline junkie, always have been, always will be. i loose sleep nightly thinking about this stuff! after my footholds are in, i was planning on attempting a flip, but after reading some posts, doesnt seem possible without some bottom end mods

Ski ' ENVY ' syndrome.....its the worst, its seasonal for me, especially bad during winter time...you want it all so bad and you dont have the money to afford it....

I think there have been many helpful tricks and suggestions mentioned here, have you mastered the barrel rolls yet..?? Have you mastered setting up 3 different style of wakes in both directions for your tricks..??

The better you learn the stuff now, the more fun it will be once you cross the line and have the possibility to upgrade.

If you want it bad enough get a second job, work at night during winter and save up.....

Flatwater backflip with a stock engine, stock hull, and no trim is going to be out of the question. Could be possible with a big wave or a v-wake.

Seriously though, if you're that obsessed with getting more power then sell the RN and get a heavily modified SN for roughly the same money. After building and acquiring parts all winter for my SN, I had spent about $2600 between the ski and all the mods. That ski freaking ripped! I put my money towards an aftermarket hull this last winter but I'm not upgrading anything with the engine or pump right now because everything was great. You'd be hard pressed to even find a RN ski for $2600.

dude you have a rn. life is good. i went from js550 to 650sx to 750sx to rn. i waited years and saved a bunch for my rn.

like others said, if u dont got the skill then the mods wont really help.

If big air is what you are looking for and funds are limited, why spend most of your budget on looks ?

And remember, sxr's weigh 80 pounds more than your rn.

last summer a few of us started riding afternoons at Saguaro Lake. We found that there is less people crowding the lake and plenty of wake boats and big cruzers. I got the biggest air of yet and will be throwing down a roll this summer. You are welcome to join. Pm me your info!!

plus theres a few "free" mods u can do. i shortened my handlepole, d cut my ride plate, did the quick steer mod, made my own footholds, removed anything un nessecary ect. the only thing i had to buy was glass and resin.

For sure do some handling mods first.
Shortened pole, new Blowsion pole spring or stiffy type pole bracket with bolts instead of a spring, WORX 201 type intake grate, straight handle bars, better throttle trigger, D-Cut ride plate, bilge pump, pole limiting rope and hood straps.

I don't see any reason you can't do HUGE nose stabs and barrel rolls with the ski you have right now. (especially with footholds). They kick it up about 10 notches!

im installing my foothold right now just got both holes cut and holds fitted. rivetting and epoxying them tomorrow. and when done with footholds will be cutting my pole. Any work im doing to my ski is due to the BAD ACE teq threads on this site.

ive done plenty of nose stabs and subs. dont get me wrong, i love my ski. i was just venting.. BTW what does cutting the D out of the ride plate actually do?
