Super Jet Busted Solas 148 pump parts

So... ordered a Solas 148 mag pump and wear ring from www.impellers.com and when it showed up the box was damaged and one of the brass cooling fittings was busted. Two interesting observations...

Look how thin the brass is on the barbed portion of the fitting (no wonder it broke).

The threaded part of the brass fitting appears to be straight machine thread as opposed to tapered NPT thread usually found in aluminum stator sections.

I'm gonna have to see where I can find a brass 3/8" barbed 90 fitting with machine threads :-/

So here's an updated pic. I went downstairs and grabbed a 90 brass fitting which goes to the bottom of my TNT exhaust manifold. It ABSOLUTELY is NPT. It's hard to tell from the pic and I'll add another pic so you can see how far each threads into the pump.

Why wouldnt you have the vendor replace the broken fitting?

I would be checking the threads in the pump to see if they're tapered rather than the fitting. A NPT to barb 90 fitting like that can be had at home depot or any decent hardware store.

you should return it for full refund and then buy from this guy ^ as he stand behind his sales.....and buy a magnum pump if they cant get simple things right like threads or barb fittings that are so weak what makes you think the rest of the pump is right???? i can see it now, pumps junk, sends vibration down the shaft, takes out crank, takes out motor......or barb breaks again or threads don't hold, cooling line comes off, motor over heats.....boom.

not trying to be a d*ck but think about it.....

Jesus christ talk about over the top with no knowledge or facts.

Flash news, the fitting isnt made by solas. solas cant control the quality control of a supplied item like a fitting.

Funny post, but it is a $2.00 brass fitting not made by Solas.

On a side note, I did spend $600 plus change with Chris on an impeller, drive shaft and a myriad of other parts. I'm a regular customer of Chris and an advocate of his excellent customer service.

The fittings do come from solas, but most of the problem is the way they are shipped. We have received quite a few from us distributor that had bent or broken fittings and holes poked right through the box.

I was gonna wait awhile to post this, but one full day should be enough time to respond with either a yes or no.

BTW, InlandJetSports is the same company as impellers.com

My 148 solas showed up just fine from @JetManiac LOL but it also was packed like a baller would pack it. My driveshaft was in a pool noodle too

Just get new fittings and retap to 1/4 npt so you can run 1/2 inch barbs

Nps and npt are the same thread pitch for each nominal diameter. so re-tapping it npt is a piece of cake and seems like the easiest solution. Just run the tap in until theres 4-5 threads left showing on the tap. Do not tap it thru. Napa actually has decent taps if you're buying local.

Tapered threads are for water fittings. Straight threads are for electrical fittings.

Even though the threads are straight it can still be pipe thread. I have some. 1/4" billet plugs and I was trying to figure out what pitch they were and it turns out it's pipe thread. Just never thought it would be since it's straight and not tapered

All this is news to me. I never had an issue swapping out the 3/8" barb to 1/2" npt.
