That JSS refurb has gone up since the last couple I had done. Makes me wish I had sent my spare out earlier. :banghead:

personally id by either used oem or go new

i know a local rider grabbed a WSM stator and out the box it didnt work right, and warranty is zero on all WSM electrical parts

I know several people in DK, having elec troubles, with complete stock elec, some with msd enhancer. one tried wsm stator, one wsm coils. i think 3 or 4 people had some kind og WSM stator elec, and none worked. They got new/used OEM stuff and were running again. Actually one got a new replace WSM coil 3 times!! all bad, until Bo at Customski.dk took care of the warrenty and send him an OEM, that did the magic trick. None of the guys i know skiing in DK, dare to buy WSM stators/coils anymore. I guess "we" could have a bad batch. Because i dosent make sense to produce stuff that dosent work haha
I had repaired 2 stators with WSM charge coils for a friend. They did not even last one tank of gas before they shorted out! They even smelled burnt. Picture shows the 2 coils (I removed some insulation on one to look at the wire). Another pic shows an oem replacement part. This coil can be had for as low as $108.71 (boatpartguys.com) ($111.17 www.partspak.com). If you can use an ohm meter to trouble shoot and are able to solder , look at my home repair- works well, lasts long time.

Our experience with WSM stator coils is the same. They are useless and go bad very quickly. Also had a jss rebuilt stator and they used a wsm charge coil and it went out very quickly as well.

Your second picture of the two shorted WSM charge coils appears like they are the 61X type without the solder connections.

Any chance they gave you the wrong type charge coil for your 62T stator assembly?

They seemed to have been the correct ones (004-148) for 62T. They have 2 solder connections underneath - not shown in pic.

Per JSS website they are rebuilding with OEM Yamaha charging coils. Thanks for the heads up I will definitely verify before they start to work on mine. I sure as hell dont want to pay $270 to have a stator rebuilt with junk. If thats the case I guess I'll just buy a new oem unit.

JSS site may say that but when he gets your stuff he will call and say all he has is WSM right now and then what do you do except tell him to go ahead.

I have a never used JSS spare in my garage...I went to move it from one shelf to another one day and the secondary ground broke off in my hand. I called him to tell him and he said it didn't matter because it was just a second ground. He told me to solder it. Someday I guess I will go buy a solder gun and fix it since he didn't seem interested.

So what was the actual failure problem with the stator and did they warranty it?

I would be curious to test the resistance specs of each coil and compare it with an oem stator.

Do you know what gauge the WSM or Caltric wires are and if they're using tin plated marine grade wire as on the oem unit?
Installed at first .motor was pre igniting with back fires when trying to start
So I took my ski back apart tried my pulser coil same crap took it back apart
By that time all was thinking hhmm I'm going to destroy my threads on my crank
The ohms appear closed enough I think the charge coil winding is wrong
Put a 61x oem stator and flywheel and my nightmare was over
5 weeks later a buddy of mine bought a blue 780 motor his stator had gone bad
Guess what . he showed up at my house with a WSM stator. told him don't even think about it
Put it on same crap , got ripped off $300, LIVE AND LEARN

I run a JSS 61X stator, very nice spark when coupled with the JSS coil rebuild and an enhancer. I'm afraid to to ride in the rain now, haha. It was cheaper a couple years ago, like $160 or something to have mine done.

It may of been previously mentioned, but I have been told that the JSS doesn't like the Epic ignition when paired together. So if you plan on that route then definitively fresh used OEM stator IMO.

Screw this 90 degree summer water and come on winter!!!

My Epic is working great with my JSS'ed stator and oem coil. I sent the stator and an oem coil to JSS because my weak stock electronics (untouched from '98) weren't playing well with the Epic.

So, my experience is the opposite of what you have been told...BUT, JSS did my rebuild two summer's ago so maybe things have changed at JSS since then.

Just spoke to John and they did raise price and are only using OEM coils now and that is the reason for the additional cost. He has done a great job for me in the past. Up to you OEM new or JSS rebuilt but all stators can have issues, years back im told OEM had issues so...

Well, I sent the stator to JSS last Wednesday, he received it Friday and I got it back today. Charging coil replaced with yamaha part, harness better than oem. Total cost including shipping both ways was less than his advertised price to recondition 62t stator. He also stocked and sold me new e-box and ignition cover gaskets. I would highly recommend this service for anyone with a bad stator
